My pepper crop will be an abbreviated one this year due to circumstances out of my control, but even after giving away more than half of the plants I grew out this year, I have these inside the Iron Curtain this year. (1) Shishito from Mr. Rick's seeds, (1) Beaver Dam from Chrysanthemum's seeds, (2) Aji Panca from Mr. Rick's seeds, (2) Poblano, (9) NuMex Big Jim. Tomato plants in the background are also planted now inside the Iron Curtain, planted much later than normal. Baker Family, Yellow Pear, Sun Sugar, Roma, Better Boy, Big Beef Plus, Black Krim, Cherokee Chocolate.

I just got my first tomatoes in the ground yesterday. Hope to get some peppers planted today.

Those are looking fabulous, Woodeye. When I zoom in, I can even see that you’ve got some blossoms already on the larger ones. Good job getting all those grown out so beautifully and planted.

My tomatoes aren't in the ground yet, I thought I was really late. I had a Facebook memory last week of eating purple tomatoes on that day. I feel a little better now.

Sowed the remainder of the tomato and pepper row with Top Pick purple hull peas this afternoon. Flattened the double ridge out that the row builder makes and the row becomes about 4 feet wide, and it's about 25 or 30 feet long. Sowed 1/2 lb. of seeds.
This evening I'm going to mulch around the tomato and pepper plants, and once they are big enough to stake I'll take some pictures. (I plant tomatoes horizontally, so they are pretty small right now)
Over at the end of the sweet potato row I have about 20 feet of row left, so I'm going to plant Heavy Hitter okra there, with Ozark Razorback cowpeas in between the okra stalks. I'm also going to mass plant the remaining sweet potato slips and remaining tomato plants, just for giggles. I should have made a 4th row like I had originally planned, but taking down the north end of the Iron Curtain, using the tractor inside the Iron Curtain, then installing the north end of the Iron Curtain again is quite laborious, so I'll just make do this year and then start out correctly next year.
As a side note, I'm not even seeing deer tracks around the outside of the Iron Curtain now, they seem to have given up on their quest to jump over the 8-1/2 foot fence. Yay! 👏

That’s great news, Woodeye, that the Iron Curtain has discouraged the deer so much that they’re not even trying to get in.
How do you get in, by the way? Is there an easy-to-use man gate somewhere in the design? I’m looking forward to seeing the pictures once your plants are settled in.

I’m looking forward to seeing the pictures once your plants are settled in. chrysanthemum, I have a gate on the SW corner, it is on the south end where the cattle panels and rabbit fence are. It's not fancy, but very secure. I use some brass snaps to keep it closed and so far have never forgotten to close the gate when I leave for the house. I considered using a piece of nylon cord to tie onto the gate when it is open, then tie the cord to my four wheeler so that I would not forget to shut the gate when I leave. That would seem to be overkill, but it only takes one instance of leaving the gate wide open all night long with a herd of marauding deer in the area, to make the cord from the gate to the four wheeler seem very logical...🤔

Thank you, rdback. The 3 plants I have from seeds that you sent me are sort of hard to see. The Shishito is on the right by the Begonia plant. It is by far the tallest plant and is already covered in flowers out in the Iron Curtain.
The two Aji Panca plants are on the left, right in front of the milk crate. They have the biggest leaves I've ever seen on a pepper plant. One of the plants has branched at the top and will be flowering before too much longer.

First picking from my lone Shishito pepper plant this evening. rdback , you were very much correct, a Shishito plant loads down with an abundance of peppers. The plant gave a sigh of relief once these were removed, there are countless peppers left on the plant though. Not sure I have ever seen a pepper plant load down like this with the exception of a Thai Hot pepper plant I had years ago. Thank You again for the seeds you sent me to get me started with this pepper...👍

Wow, Woodeye. That is a lot from one plant. My understanding is that the longer they stay on the plant, the more time they have to develop some heat. It may be that the reddish ones, therefore, will be more likely to be hot than the green ones, but green ones can be surprising, too. We do love to blister them in a pan with a little hot oil and salt. I’ll be curious to hear what you think after you eat them and how many hot ones you find.

You guys are making me wish I could smell and taste again! I got my first ripe tomato yesterday. It had no more flavor than a water balloon because of the polyps that block my nose from smelling anything.
