That's an example of excellent research! I think I may have stumbled upon the white seeded Kentucky Wonder, back in the early 1980s.

Incidentally, I'll mention that someone recommended the Easy Garden Forum to me some months ago. I went there and joined, happy to find a number of old gardening friends already there. First chance I found a thread which interested me and posted a reply, using everything I've learned here and when we had Homesteading Edu. I used their tools (just like you see on our forum) and included a couple links and photos. Within 24 hours I was kicked off that forum. Apparently they have some unspoken rule against linking to other forums and/or photos. They gave me no options to appeal or even to communicate with an administrator. Definitely, there was no warning before being banished. So, I just had to knock the dust off my shoes and forget about that group. So sad when folk are too preoccupied with protecting their little kingdom that they isolate themselves like that. (Okay, that's a bit of a rant, but that's exactly what I think about it.)

I’m sorry that happened to you! I had no idea we couldn’t share links there. They could at least have a warning. This truly upsets me! Like you, I have a lot of gardening friends there.

I too am a member over there, but don't post much anymore. I originally signed up because Annette frequented the place. After spending some time there, it seemed to me some folks there were VERY willing to name a bean, just because they didn't "recognize" it. I'm more old-school amateur preservationist. I much prefer to grow beans with a history, preserve it, and add to it if applicable. With this carefree (re)naming, all that is lost. Just my 2c. Your mileage may vary. (steps down off soapbox)

rdback That’s the same reason I signed up over there! I miss talking to Annette so much!

George, I sure am glad you are more open than the forum you mentioned. That sounds like a good way to go extinct to me. You kind of remove yourself from the 'gene pool' so to speak, by shooting down fellow gardeners who just want to share helpful gardening links.

My thoughts on not allowing sharing links is that it helps prevent spam and may be the reason for doing it. I have heard of other forums, however, who don't let you link to or mention competitors. I would be lost, because I often share articles.

So much has changed in terms of the internet, since the late 90s. Jerreth and I had to study about writing for the internet and she even got her masters degree as an instructional designer, in order to create and launch Homesteading Edu. Though we had to pull the plug on that website we definitely learned a huge amount about what causes search engines to better find a website and how to raise a website's ratings with Google. Linking to other similar websites is now part of best practices and is considered very important both ways. Even competitors now link back and forth as it simply helps everyone. I guess what really bothered me was that I could not find anywhere on that forum where they posted rules about "no pictures" and "no links" and, when I got censored, there was no way to communicate with the admins. I would feel horrible if I ever treated a new member here in such a manner.
And, yes, there is such a thing as over multiplying names of heritage varieties. Beans, especially, are more prone to crossing than most recognize. Many old strains, from their inception include more diversity than modern folk care to allow for a named variety.
