I am the great-great granddaughter of Ma Hamby Jones. Her Hamby family developed this amazing line. She spread the seed to neighbors on Mounteagle Mountain from Tracy City, TN. We lost the seed when my grandmother, Marie Jones Bibles, died. I wrote a book in which I mentioned finding the seed again. The great niece of a friend of Ma Jones sent me some her family had grown through the years. I now grow and can my own. The bean pods are broad, flat and slightly sweet. When let grow, the pods become huge. The Hamby green pole beans are delicious!

Welcome! I'm so happy you joined us and have shared about this bean. Do tell us any and all details that you can about the origins of this bean: where, when, who, etc. I grew it two years ago and chronicled it here. Jesse Keener, one of our members grows the bean and swears by it!

Hi Hamby girl. Welcome to the forum. I too would love more details if you have some more. George sent them to me and Hamby is the center of attention in my garden this year.

Welcome, Hambygirl. Jesse Keener introduced us to Hamby beans a few years ago. Thank you, for carrying on that line of work. Looking forward to more posts, come picking and canning season.
