Those veggies were some someone else's garden. The hoppers destroyed everything in my garden except my okra again this year. Thank goodness for neighbors who garden!
We made it to 102° here today, with more on tap every day this week.

I’m so sad to hear this. But, yeah, thank God for blessed neighbors.
I was out early this morning (bout 5) checking on the rabbits. Not sure what the temp was, but it was cooler outside the house. The rabbits were thoroughly enjoying it.

The cool nights and early morning are persistent. Early this year. Heat is not over, but the cloud cover is easing it. Usually the 3rd week of August is when we see persistent cool mornings. Bun buns are enjoying the cool.

Yep, and it's of the Super Blue variety. (the moon is closest to the earth in its path around the globe) The next Super Blue Moon won't happen again until January, 2037.
Yikes! Lord willing, I'll be 82 years old, maybe by then I will have figured out how to consistently grow okra...🤔🤷♂️

Isn’t it at the end of the month? The thirtieth or thirty-first? I don’t think you’ve missed it yet, since by its very nature the blue moon has to occur a second time in a month, and it’s too early for that to have happened, or am I missing something?

According to NASA it was last night.

It is said that a blue moon occurs in two ways: (which is news to me)
---When there are two moons in a calendar month,
OR
---When there are four full moons in a season, with the third one considered a seasonal blue moon.
I also read that the August full moon is called a Sturgeon moon. So maybe this one is a Seasonal Super Blue Sturgeon Moon?
It's all too confusing for me, but that's not saying a whole lot... 🤔

Thanks for the replies, Frosty and Woodeye. I think it was the whole “seasonal blue moon” that caught me and the fact that when I looked it up after Frosty’s first post the other night, I didn’t read carefully enough. I had searched “blue supermoon August” and clicked on a NASA set of FAQs since I, too, consider NASA a pretty reputable source. The article I found discussed the blue supermoon coming up on the thirtieth and thirty-first, but here’s where I didn’t read carefully enough: he article was from August 2023, not 2024, so I missed it, too. I’ll still look tonight since it’s much clearer out now in our neck of the woods, and it should still be a pretty full waning gibbous.
The weather here has been gorgeous the last couple of days. Temperatures have been cooling off at night down to the fifties and not rising out of the seventies during the day with low humidity. We do still need rain even after the remnants of Tropical Storm Debby dropped about five inches earlier this month. I think we’re supposed to warm back up tomorrow a bit and continue through the weekend, but this little taste of autumn has been a delightful treat.
Have y’all in Oklahoma had any break from the high heat?

Same here, chrysanthemum, I was not aware of the "seasonal blue moon" until I happened to read about it last night on one of the weather sites. Until then I thought that 2 full moons in the same month was the only way for a blue moon to occur.
The high temperatures have left us here in the central part of OK, at least for a few days. It's nice to write about the weather without using 'blistering' or 'scorching' as the most prominent adjectives to describe the heat for the day. Yay!
The extreme heat of summer is not close to being over with here however, Friday begins another week of high temperatures which will include 100's.

chrysanthemum I bet it is really gorgeous there. If it were feasible, I’d fly down there just to sip a cup of coffee outside for 1 hr. I’m crazy like that. But I would miss the Oklahoma wind.
Oklahoma does a spectacular job of blowing in fall weather. Hearing the rustling leaves and an odd cool breeze breaking the hot sun is my favorite time of year.
This summer has been terrific. Multiple storms with days of cloud cover broke up the misery. NO DROUGHT this year but just normal dryness from wind and sun. Reminds me of my childhood. Heading into fall with some good soil moisture.
It’s time to get some peas in the ground.

Rain! It rained here yesterday evening! It's an amazing thing, I had not gotten a single drop since the weather change began the day before and had pretty much given up hope of scoring some water from the heavens. Lo and behold, a lone wolf cloud must have strayed somehow and found my house. It seems that surprise rain is the only ones I get nowadays, but I'll take them and be very thankful for them every single time. There was exactly one inch of rain water in the gauge when I checked it this morning. Yay!

Glad to hear you received some rain, Woodeye! These rains seem to be really localized. Looked like we were going to get a deluge yesterday and we only received about a quarter inch. Other places got more, and, I imagine, some didn't receive any.
