Hi George, while going through some older bags of beans I came across these. They were labeled Calypso, but I’ve been told they are definitely not. These may have come from Dan McMurray back when I was trading and collecting beans. What do you think? I planted everyone of them and hope they come up. Some of my beans are getting pretty old now.

Well, Calypso is black and white, but it's not splotched like that. My guess is that it's a cross from Calypso or else a different bean altogether. Moose, I wish I could help more. Good to have you back!

Thanks George. I don’t garden too much anymore. My back and hip give me a world of hurt, but I have a few tomatoes and squash. I went ahead and planted all the black and white beans too. I’ll just have to label it mystery bean for awhile. Good to see you again! I’ll pop in when I can.

Those spotted beans that you posted photos of are pretty cool looking. Too bad the name, 'Pinto' is already taken.

I've seen that bean before. Shoot, I might have even grown it lol. I'll look around and let you know if I find anything HMK.

Whatever they are, they’re coming up.

How’d they fare with all that rain we just got? We ended up with six inches, and my beans loved it. They’re in raised beds, though, because our land is mostly limestone rather than soil.

So far, so good, but It’s really soggy out there. It’s going to take a few days without rain in order to do anything and by that time, the Bermuda and Johnson grass will be tall!

Well Moose, I looked through my bean "stuff" and I don't see anything I've grown that looks like this fellow. Still, I know I've seen it, so I did a little searching and found a couple of possibilities.
My best guess is Littlefield's Special. It looks very similar. You can see it HERE.
Another possibility is Orca. Now, the Orca I'm familiar with is just part black, part white, without spots (like the whale) and doesn't really match, but I found a variation being sold as Orca that looks pretty close. You can see that one HERE. Also, Orca is also known as Calypso, Yin-Yang and Vaquero. Sooo, we've come full circle and perhaps you do have Calypso after all LOL.
In any event, I hope it produces a bunch for you, what ever it is.

Moose,
That is some beautiful-looking soil! I'm envious. You can keep the Bermuda grass and the Johnson grass though, I've already fought that battle.

It is possible to overcome them though. Keep disturbing those roots, eventually, the rhizomes of the grasses become so weakened they succumb to dry weather, insects, and disease.

Hmoosek, are you getting all sorts of rain? How’s your garden holding up?
I’ve been looking at radar maps of Texas the last couple of days, and some areas really seem to be getting hit very hard.

My garden is a lake! Water standing everywhere. My squash are going to be the size of baseball bats before I get out there. Today is the first day in over a week that it didn’t rain hard. It only sprinkled a little today. Pepper, Tomato and Squash plants are loaded though. It’s the one time I should have planted rice. Hahahaaa
