I'm looking into weed barrier to place around some perennials. Right now it's taking a good bit of effort and time to keep the perennials weed free. I'm hoping someone can give me good advice on a weed barrier that's durable water permeable reasonably priced
There are so many options it's not clear to me what is what.
I know I could use cardboard and mulch etc. but eventually the weeds come through. We're up to 40 fruit trees, a dozen Muscadine & other grape vines and I don't know how many plantings of various other perennials if I'm going to continue I need something better.
Thanks in advance!

Raf, I'm sorry I missed this for so long. But then again, I don' t know what to tell you. The University where I work uses a heavy black, woven, weed barrier in most of its beds. Some of it has been in place for nearly a decade. I don't, however, know what it's called or where they got it.

Sunshine Nursery in Tahlequah sells heavy duty weed barrier in several different widths. I think the roll are 300 feet long.

How did we miss this thread? This makes me think. Maybe i should contact Leon in Guthrie to see if he can hop a decent price for me. Sure would be nice to have some. Leon is popular on youtube. Builds custom greenhouses and such.

I've watched several of the gardening with Leon videos. Does a lot of planting in mineral tubes.
Anyway I got my woven ground cover from Morgan county seed in Missouri. So far no weeds have come through it but I've only had it out a couple months at most.

Don't use old carpet. I found that out the hard way one year when all the cotton fiber rotted away, leaving me piles and piles of rayon to rake up and burn.

Oh my! I remember by experiment with using old carpet. I picked up a lot of it off the curb and gleefully used it to make weed free walk ways in the garden. Well, they were weed free for a couple of months. Then the Bermuda started poking up through it. After two years I realized it wasn't helping much at all and needed to be removed. It about killed me to pull the carpet up again. It was all ROOTED to the soil! Then I had to get rid of that sodden, dirty mass of carpet. Never again!
