Hi, Where can I buy some garlic to plant? Initially I saved some from the grocery store-bought cloves to plant, then someone told me they have been treated and won't grow. I'm now so late in the game, and many places are sold out. I'm in zone 7B north GA.

Grocery store garlic should grow just fine. I've done it a couple of times before. I forget my zone, whether it's 7a or 7b, but I plant garlic when I can. I believe it's customary here to plant in October.
Southern Exposure Seed Exchange generally has good garlic. I believe it's still available.

Wenny, alot of suppliers are showing that they're out since many of them don't have inventory yet. In your area I'd recommend Hoss Tools as well, they don't have any in stock yet but will soon.

George, guess won’t hurt to try those stored bought cloves.
Raf, I just subscribed to Hoss Tools and be on the watch for their garlic too. I want to try some hard neck that’s more tasty than the store bought ones.

Naw, you're not too late. October is a fine time to plant garlic.
I just found these folks - I haven't ordered from them yet but I might give them a try.
They are a little pricey though. Check out their website. Lots of good info on different kinds of garlic - look up "garlic" under "Blog"
They're sold out on some varieties, but still seem to have a good selection available.

I have used these guys in the finger lakes region of New York. www.dnb.com/business-directory/company-profiles.wilson_garlic_and_produce_llc.38cbb9eaffec742d46269e1fe278e4a9.html I believe they grow some of the finest hard neck garlic is grown in New York State. I don't believe they have a website buy you can call and speak to the owner. He is very personable, they do send out a small catalogue in July-August. Last year I ordered and planted 25 pounds of the 'Music' variety. He recommended the 'Music' as he said it grows a little bit taller for him than the'German White' which he also sells.

wenny,
I've planted store-bought garlic with success, even though they are supposed to be planted in the Fall of the year, I've bought the already sprouted bulbs on sale for cheap and planted them in Spring. If you cover them up in Fall, they'll still be there next year. The trick is in remembering where you planted them. We live in Zone 7a.

I have done the store bought garlic too. I bought it at Costco really cheap. I think it was from China. It grew and overwintered fine. I believe it was the softneck garlic.

The hardneck stuff is expensive, you'd be doing well to find it at 10 dollars a pound.
