These are the October pole bean. From what i was told they came from the Cherokee. They are a good producer.I mainly use them as shelly beans. When beans are fresh they are creamy white with red striping/dots.They have a nutty flavor.i usually make them into like cooking pintos or for soups. They are a pretty good green beans also.when maturing the bean will be green with red stripes. They will reproduce when picked young. They do put on later than others varieties but i have seen them bear just as early.I will post pic of the seed of the bush variety soon and pictures through the growing season of both.

I've seen quite a few beans with that coloration. Back around 1984 I was given seed to a bush bean with this kind of seed. It came to be called O'Dell's Hillbilly, as that was what Mrs. O'Dell, in Warsaw, Indiana, wanted me to call it. Hopefully the Seed Savers Exchange or someone else who got it from me still has the seed.
Jesse, I suspect that almost any variety you encounter, which has been in Tennessee for a long long time, has Cherokee roots.
