Here's what we purchased, about 14 years ago. I will still accidentally catch it on a fence, now and then, which is very disturbing when trying to maintain the edge. It does work well for small saplings and all the weeds you mentioned. Interestingly, I have a lower back issue at times, and using the scythe helps.
Scythe from Lee Valley Tools/ Austrian
I loaned ours this spring and am missing it
Also, we've become extremely attached to hand sickles. I have two, and we often need both, as Jerreth and I would otherwise be competing for it!
Amazon: Japanese Hand Sickle
The hand sickle is probably more useful to me than the scythe. I simply MUST have it with me when I'm in the garden. It works great along the fence, and I use it every single day while cutting forage for our rabbits and penned ruminants.

I believe I have the longer blade, and it has never caused me any issues.
Another great thing about that particular scythe, at least if you purchase from Lee Valley Tools, is that they stand by their product. After some ten years I cracked a handle by over-tightening. They didn't list replacement handles, but when I called in, I was able to arrange to get a replacement for something like $10 or slightly under. The new handle arrived in just a few days.
