I thought it would be nice to see what everyone is growing. Some of mine are planted and some are in damp paper towels germinating.
Oaxacan Cream---1 growing, 4 more in paper towel.
Hoteko---1 growing, 4 more in PT.
Chestnut Flavored---7 growing
Pienky Jas--- 2 planted.
Minnie Shatterly--- 12 planted
Woods Mountain Crazy Bean--12 sprouted beans planted. None are up yet.
Sierra Madre (yard long bean) --10 in PT
Outcrossed Purple Pole---4 in PT
Tennessee Green Pod---10 in PT
Most of this seed is really old and I don't expect much in the way of germination. I'll be lucky to get a bean or 2 of each.

If I could guess, I'd say that Annette's beans are called Mr. Tung's. They have a fascinating history of being brought over from China.
Moose, you are ambitious!

Moose, you are ambitious! George, I think the bean was called Emelia's Italian Pole. It's the bean she has grown over 40 years.

This is Pienky Jas, We went though quiet a few to get the correct bean, but I think we finally hit the jack pot. This is Pienky Jas. I had seeds of this back in 2010, but sent all I had to a lady at Martha's Vineyard. This year, Annette mentioned it and we all started looking for a source. We had a friend that was able to purchase and send some to us.

Well,
I gave up on some as they had started to rot.
Black Jungle Butterbean Emelia's Italian Pole Ruth Bible Grandma Roberts Tobacco Worm Chwrokee TOT Turkey Craw
Regretable, but I tried. I knew my seed was old.
I bought new seed for Ruth Bible this year, so I can plant those. I just wanted to see if my old seed was still viable.

My list is considerably smaller this year... Emelia's Italian Pole Juanita Smith Piekny Jas(Phaseolus Coccineus) I planted 3 out of the 8 I had, the other 5 are on there way to England to the gal who found Sarah's Old Fashioned Black for me. Polish Freidank Breck's Italian Seneca Speckled Egg Barksdale Buenos Aires Roja Herrenbohali Nuna (from a commercial package) not day length sensitive, 2nd. year growing it. Cherokee Trail of Tears (white seeded) Sarah's Old Fashioned Black Also a Lima that was sold as Piekny Jas but it isn't, the true PJ's are runners. Maybe one or two more if I don't run out of steam . Well, I have to cut back a bit on how many I grow in a season. We have had a sharp increase in the native (solitary) bee population, and crossing between beans has taken a sharp upturn. I have to increase my isolation distance. I have planted Tennessee Cutshort. I am about ready to plant Woods Mountain Crazy Bean and Georgia Long (long bean/cowpea). I MUST grow out Fowler Bush Bean, which is another everbearing bush variety. Tarahumara Pink Green Bean is a must grow this year. I'm going to put it in where I can better protect it, in case of an early frost.
I have a small garden plot at work (8'X4') which I have decided to plant in Tarahumara Purple Ojos. This one is a nice, vigorous (albeit not as vigorous as Tarahumara Pink Green Bean) pole, dry bean. It produces gorgeous, delicious, multicolored dry beans. It really is a very beautiful and practical bean. I have found that home grown dry beans are so far superior to store bought, that I'm feeling the need to produce a bunch.
Last year a cross between Tennessee Cutshort and Cherokee Trail of Tears surfaced in my garden. I'm intrigued. I've decided to grow it out and select for a tender podded, black seeded bean. Though, I may end up with a not so tender podded, black cutshort, more used for a dry bean. I'll have to decide as I go.
I'm planning to grow out Zongozotla Pintitos Cowpea again, and get more seed. I received this seed from Totonac friends, from Zongozotla, Puebla, Mexico, back in the 90s. I will also plant either Penny Rile or Kentucky Red Cowpea, both of which are extremely hardy and dependable. Zongozotla Pintitos hasn't proven so reliable as these two.
I plan to grow a good many Barksdale Wax Pole Beans. I'll plant them toward the middle or end of June, as a fall bean. This bean has that bothersome trait of heat sensitive pollen. It typically won't set on pods in our climate, until late summer. If I plant it too early, the vines are languishing by the time they can set on pods. So, I'm going to plant late. Glenn Drowns grew this one out a couple of years ago, planting very late (though, not on purpose). He told me that it was exceedingly prolific. That's when the light went on in my head: "I need to plant late!"
I have frozen seed of Childers Cutshort, Tennessee Cornfield and Ruth Bible; all of which went into frozen storage years ago, and not in good condition. I need to grow them. But I am too short on time and space.
I'll probably plant Calico Willow Leaf Pole Lima again. Last year it was a bust. It refused to make seed.
Someday I need to track down some seed of Flossie Powell (Lima). I lost mine when we moved to Oklahoma. It's a WONDERFUL bean and exceedingly rare.

macmexGood news! I was getting ready to toss Tobacco Worm bean seed because they were starting to rot, but asked my wife to check them out. She found 1 with a sprout! I'm putting it into a cup cause I must be doing something wrong. None of the sprouted bean seed I have put in the garden has emerged yet. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I'm scratching my head over it.

These are the rare Chestnut Flavored beans. We had a bad storm today. I should have tried to protect them better. I'm down to just 9 seeds left. I'm beyond sick and mad at myself.
