This is my first attempt at a raised bed. Age and health have caught up with me, so my days of tilling the soil are behind me. I have a young fellow that built this for me and will till my garden if it ever stops raining. Anyways, I promised Glen I'd try and snap a few pictures. These are Semposai and Komatsuma " alt=" "]

That's a great looking raised bed.
I was confined to a wheelchair for a few months once. I sure did appreciate that someone had planted a raised bed that I could reach to help pull weeds. It was great to get outside and enjoy some sunshine there.

Right after Planting, it started raining for several days. If they had been in the ground, they would have been washed away. I think we got somewhere between 7 to 8 inches. Some of it was slow and steady and some of it came down in buckets. So far all of my plants survived, but we have more rain on the way.

I am absolutely impressed. Wonderful. I am looking forward to seeing many more foto's. That is what this forum needs so we can get more interest. I know what you mean by not tilling. I have to use a pick mattock to do my tilling. I also use a lot of pots Moose, which I highly recommend. I buy 10 gallon and 4 and 5 gallon pots and do quite a bit of gardening in those. You would be surprised at how much food you can produce by using pots. It really works. I buy composted wood shavings and mix that at about 20 to 30% rate with my soil before filling the pots. You can scavenge for containers to use as pots also. There isn't hardly any pots or containers to scavenge where I live but where you live there should be. I used to go to nursery's and buy used pots as well for half the price. As far as beans goes, I can use a pick mattock to break up a 6 foot radious of ground, then use poles to make a nice teepee. Then I can plant 20 bean seeds under this tall teepee. That really saves space also. I take my time with the pick mattock. No need to be in a hurry. I get things done slowly but surely.
