Folks, my garden is starting to look pretty good, in spite of being a bit late on some things. I have Old Timey Cornfield Pumpkin almost ready to start crawling. I planted it early as I felt I needed some encouragement. This one always makes me feel good when it takes off.
Woods Mountain Crazy Bean is just breaking the soil now. Tennessee Cutshort is a little ahead of Woods Mountain Crazy Bean. But it's a pole bean, so Woods Mountain will probably produce first. I need to start Georgia Long, which is a long bean (related to cowpeas). That's our "green bean" during the dog days of July and early August. It produces when regular beans shut down.
I'm growing Tarahumara Pink Green Bean (pole variety) for the first time since 2013. It's breaking ground now, This one is super vigorous. We're really looking forward to doing some photo and video footage on it, in the fall.
I'm just planting my sweet potatoes now.
How's your garden coming?

George,
Thanks for the encouraging update. This has been a tough Spring. I've got a few sweet potatoes going. I've planted okra at least twice to no avail. I only have half a dozen or so plants that have survived the onslaught of deer, hogs, and crows. I have 203 tomato plants up and caged. Several have been browsed by deer or pulled up by the roots, but 203 survived. Some of my Early Girl variety have tomatoes the size of walnuts and are two feet tall. I have a few pepper plants, and one basil. The crows have killed all but a handful of my onions so far. I've never had them do that before. They've pulled up the same onions 4 times in two days. I replant them, the crows pull them up... I find fresh deer tracks daily. There are a few hog tracks as well. I think I took care of the hog problem. I've got two crows in the last few days, but the deer are coming in at night. Gardening that far from the house is tough. The wildlife pretty much own it.
