Good morning friends! Just received more of the motherland okra and wanna find out if it was originally from Nigeria and the rest of West Africa centuries ago. Any of you growing some this year? I sure will grow some at my community farm. Please let me know how your okra went before or what was it like growing an okra. Take care!

Tell us more, Buffaloberry. I have never heard of this variety before. Where did you get your seed? What did they tell you about it? Hopefully someone else, here, will have more info.

There is a write up about Motherland on the Sistah Seeds website: sistahseeds.com/products/motherland-okraI believe Baker Creek distributed it last year or the year before, but I do not know if they have continued to do so.

Thanks for that info. I wonder if this isn't also of the same species of okra as Glen's coffee okra, in Panama? AfricanX is a hybrid of that species with Abelmoschus esculentus, the okra most widely grown on this continent.
Sure glad I haven't planted any okra yet! Not after last night's freeze!
