Wishing everyone a blessing Christmas! We've had family over, and will for a few more days, but I want to drop in and wish you all the best as we celebrate the coming (1st Coming) of the Lord.
“Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world. But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.” Galatians 4:3-5

Luke 1:31-33
31 And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name Jesus.
32 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:
33 And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.
Merry Christmas everyone!

Merry Christmas, Gardening Friends.
I am a deep lover of hymns of all sorts [though not the best singer of them], and one I’ve been thinking about this morning is “Joy to the World.” What I particularly enjoy about this one is that it is appropriate for looking back with thanks to the Savior’s birth, but it also looks forward wonderfully to His Second Coming when His Kingdom will be brought into its fullness. I thought the third verse might particularly resonate with those of us who still work the ground in our own small ways.
1 Joy to the world, the Lord is come! Let earth receive her King! Let every heart prepare Him room, and heav'n and nature sing, and heav'n and nature sing, and heav'n, and heav'n and nature sing. 2 Joy to the earth, the Savior reigns! Let men their songs employ, while fields and floods, rocks, hills, and plains repeat the sounding joy, repeat the sounding joy, repeat, repeat the sounding joy. 3 No more let sins and sorrows grow, nor thorns infest the ground; He comes to make His blessings flow far as the curse is found, far as the curse is found, far as, far as the curse is found. 4 He rules the world with truth and grace, and makes the nations prove the glories of His righteousness and wonders of His love, and wonders of His love,

Those old hymns contain such good truth! An interesting anecdote:
I'm the least musically inclined of my entire clan. My grand father was an Army band leader and played 26 instruments. My father played something like 8 instruments. My wife plays a couple and all my kids play a couple.
My mother LOVED hymns and used to sing them constantly around the home when I was growing up. To this day I can hear her in my mind, when I consider hymns like Joy to the World.
In fact, when singing a hymn, I often just remember Mom and sing it like she did....
Well, some years ago my wife informed me, with a chagrined look,... that Mom sang off tune!!! Hah! Well, I suppose that the Lord loved it just the same and doesn't mind when I sing my best... off tune!

She passed in the summer of 76. Her favorite tunes were Lily of the Valley and Where he leads me I will follow.

A little more about my Grandma. She was a large woman. She wasn’t fat, she was tall and big boned. I don’t know exactly how tall, but well over 6’. My uncle was 6’2” and she was taller than him. My Grandpa was a short dude. He looked tiny next to her. I am told She could pick 300 pounds of cotton per day. My Grandpa could only pick 290 pounds. She loved sweets. When I was 9 or 10 years old, she and I were sitting in the car while my uncle plowed. While we were waiting, we ate a bunch of candy easter eggs. We were so full we didn’t want supper! She loved me and I loved her.

One of my favorite countryside anecdotes is the one that says that after the 21st, every day "the sun takes a rooster step higher in the sky."
