They say you should learn something new every day. Well, The Purple Fence Post is a new one on me. What else was surprising is I'm surrounded by States that use it, lol.

rdback , count me as uninformed too, I have never heard of such a thing. I researched to see if Oklahoma has it, nope. The governor vetoed the Purple Paint Law in 2005.
Still, I should have known about this and I thank you for raising my awareness on this issue.
With that said, if I should happen upon a purple post I'll automatically know that I've wandered off into another state somehow...🤔

Having lived the past several years in Texas, I did manage to see purple paint one time on one property. I didn’t have any clue what it meant, but my next door neighbor enlightened me that it was a sign that there was no hunting or trespassing allowed. The particular home was in our suburban neighborhood where no lots were large enough to allow hunting, and I’m not sure what sort of trespassing would have been a concern, but the large oak trees in the front yard had wide swaths of purple paint all around them.
I can’t say I saw many “No trespassing” signs in Texas, but a lot of properties there were fenced and gated, so maybe that is why. There are lots of “no trespassing” signs around now that I’ve moved back to Virginia. My kids were commenting recently on the number of private roads around where we live, too. I guess that struck them as different as they weren’t used to seeing roads in Texas designated as private, though there were plenty of gated communities down there.

Someone from Arkansas deceived our neighbors, asking permission to hunt on their place in exchange for brush hogging. They then poached a deer or two before the season and painted a bunch of fence posts purple. Never did brush hog and we never heard from them again. That's how I learned about purple fence posts and hunting boundaries.
