YOu are exactly what I was thinking of this morning as I attempted to straighten my attitude. I was wanting to just shut it all down! Stupid me. I Even quietly barked at Bill this morning and had to apologize.
So, I walked out to the garden, passed by the potato plant loaded with potato beetle larva, picked a plant that looked like it was exposed to the sun and dug up those potatoes. A good amount of potatoes of good size, probably about 3 lbs worth from ONE plant. Went back to the house, not looking back.
And promptly produced a mess of hash browns, slid three fried eggs onto the plate beside them and fed my husband. I told him not to worry if he couldn’t eat it all, it was virtually FREE. He’s been out of work for a while now and, yet, I just fed him a massive breakfast that I pulled from the back yard.
Not gonna give up! Why would I complain when it’s working?
Glass half full/half empty thingy . . .

I’ve been digging potatoes for a week. Finally, I grabbed both kids in the cool morning hour to help dig potatoes and we had boatloads of fun. Grub worms were snackrifices to the chickens, dirt fights ensued and mutual chiding was mandatory. Probably a couple hundred pounds and we're not done yet. The potatoes look gorgeous and some are huge. Dude on the internet said to pluck the eyes out but one when planting for larger spuds. Leave the extra eyes on if you want more but smaller potatoes. I plucked all but one eye out and it worked.
Yes, some were rotten and some plants were pathetic from the potato beetle but the harvest is plentiful. Still have 2 more rows to dig.
Red Norland Yukon Minnesota Russets
The Colorado potato beetle killed the russet plants so they are small but very healthy looking. Red Nordland stole the harvest yields. Yukons are excellent and HUGE this year.
So happy to have a potato harvest after years of failure!

That’s such good news, Frosty. I’m delighted to hear it.
I’ve never grown russets but have grown both Red Norland and Yukon Gold. I’ve never had huge potatoes from either one, but they’ve been good. I’m just so glad to hear about your success this year with potatoes after you’ve been working so hard.

Thank you, God, for Frosty's potato harvest! That sure was encouraging news!
