chrysanthemumYes, I was just too impatient I guess. All 3 porter and all 4 shishito peppers are off to the races. I have them under a desk lamp being as thats the only place I have to keep them. It’s a little tight, but I move/rotate them around the light. That’s one reason for me only starting a few. The broccoli raab got lanky on me. Not sure about those. We had so much cloudy/rainy weather till there wasn’t any good place to set them.

I know what you mean, Moose. If ever I germinate a seed indoors it's guaranteed the sun won't shine for another two weeks.

hmoosek, I’m so glad to hear that your Porters and your Shishitos have come up. That makes me happy to hear. We’re having a cold front move in tonight. It was 80 degrees today, but it’s supposed to be freezing by Friday morning. My seeds are just staying in the house for now. I haven’t arranged lighting for them yet. I have the light but need to get my husband to help me move some other plants out of the way. There’s been plenty of sunshine here, but we’ve had a lot of wind and some pretty wild temperature swings at times.

Looking good, Monsieur Moose. I do believe I see their future home too, looks like a 12 pack of grow bags back behind the plants...

I love that picture, hmoosek ! Thanks. Mine isn’t nearly so full of green, but I did manage to do some rearranging in our school/plant room. My husband helped me get the ginger onto the table where the seedlings had been, and I got the seedlings onto the plant cart where the ginger had been. There’s a plant light suspended over the plant cart, and a few of the seedlings were getting tall enough all ready that I thought they needed more focused light. I may not have it low enough because of a jade plant that’s on the cart, too. I’ll have to see how they look in the next couple of days. I may be able to raise the seedlings higher by putting a box under them or something.

My seedlings have been spending some time outside on our warm sunny days. They’ll need to come back in, though, when we are expected to have a cold front blow in later this week. It will cool off, but the wind gusts could knock them right off the table again, and hopefully I’ve learned my lesson about paying attention to wind now since I had that happen a couple weeks ago with a tray of cooler weather plants. Not everything germinated, but overall I’m pretty pleased. I did reseed in the empty slots this past weekend, though I haven’t had the tray on a heating mat inside since it’s been so warm outside during the day. My one casualty so far has been the lone Battir eggplant seed. It had drooped down the other day, but it hadn’t completely given up the ghost either. Today was too much for it, though, and it’s gone. There is a sprout from my first seeding in another sponge, but it hasn’t found the strength to rise of out of the little hole in the sponge yet, so I’m not terribly optimistic. The third seed showed no sign of sprouting, so I put a new seed in. I’ll have to do a replacement seed for the third slot as well. I really hope I can manage to get these seeds to germinate and grow.

I managed to get most of my plants transplanted this afternoon. I still have 4 left to do, but I’m tuckered out. Maybe tomorrow. 3 Porter tomatoes 4 Shishito peppers 5 Roselle

Those look great, hmoosek. Are you guys at risk for violent weather today or tomorrow? We had a hail storm overnight. There was rain, too, for which I’m thankful, but I’m very glad I brought the seedlings in last night.

I have 3 trays of seeds planted. Tomatoes, peppers, collards, Asian greens, cabbage and a few herbs. I still need to find more herb seeds. I tipped over 2 cups, don't know if the seeds stayed put or not. We have cold coming in. I need to encourage my husband to plant carrots and turnips and lettuce.

amyinowassoDid you say you planted two cups of seeds Or did I misunderstand?

I didn't reread that post and missed the typo. I plant in paper cups and I managed to tip over 2, so the contents spilled into the tray. I always end up with at least one seed growing in the tray and not the cup.

I potted up the tomatoes and peppers about a week ago. They spent the early part of the week outside during the day, but they started having to come in at night as it cooled off. The past couple of days they’ve been inside the whole day. I hope to get them back outside toward the middle of the week and then perhaps into the garden this coming Saturday if the forecast holds.
