I have just obtained seed of a yellow and an orange variety of this type. I plan to sow them, in place.

Sweet! I think I’m just going to go ahead and get some more seed. I love these. Easier to start than black eyed Susan’s. Mine were 2 foot tall by August.

I got impatient and planted 6 of each in cell packs. Two days later and half have already germinated.

So, I now have 6 of 6 large orange variety, but 4 of 6 of large yellow. Even though I've now resown the 2 missing yellow, twice (4 additional seeds - without 1 plant to show for it).

Aw, I’m jelly. Maybe next year. I planted about 15 Shasta daisy plants, but they won’t flower til next year.

I went shopping today to see if I could find a yellow marigold plant/plants to fill in the hole. No luck, apparently they are no longer offered as bedding plants at big box stores.

That's sad. If so, it's what I'd call a "fad." It wouldn't be a fad to offer marigolds but it sure would be if they neglected them! Some years ago I saved seed of a hybrid marigold and have been growing them out year to year. Every year the plants seem to grow a little taller, but the flowers are as beautiful, if not more beautiful, than ever.
I don't know why, but so far, this year, I haven't managed to get very many to come up.
