This years garden was toast, literally, for soft edibles above ground. Nothing made it except 1/3 of the strawberries. Even Rick's butter beans succumbed though they did not die completely.
Sweet potato harvest was excellent. Irish potatoes yielded an enormous amount of potato seeds. They were all perfectly sized and healthy for next years planting. They didn't reach harvest size but persisted and I will work with them harder next year.
Backfilling the beds with seasoned tree trash and using hard mulch (Johnson grass stalks and the like and tree trash) was exceedingly helpful. The Backfilling is hard work and my body will only allow intermittent progress.
We are categorically still in extreme drought. I m on a slope and count this as exceptional drought for me.
I looked at what did come out okay and let that be my focus. So I planted three beds of wheat this fall. Almost half my main garden area. The other half will be Irish and sweet potatoes.
The kids and I continue to pull Bermuda and slowly expand.
Brassicae likes my soil and is good at scavenging. The kale -all of it survived.
Wheat and grains Irish and sweet potatoes Brassicae Tomatoes Peppers Corn isn't reliable with the weather but Ill keep trying.
Bon

Welcome back to the forum, FrostyTurnip , it's so good that you are officially back. You have been missed tremendously, but I never realized how much I would miss you until you were gone. But that is all in the past. Your wisdom and foresight are back, and I can't speak for anyone other than myself, but I can say with a firm conviction that you will not be taken for granted ever again...
Plus, you always dared to laugh at my jokes when nobody else would take the chance...

So glad to have you back. I like your new screen name. I definitely missed your contributions. I’m going to head over to a compost thread we had going this summer and tag you in it.

Compared to yesterday, I feel pretty good. I’m still weak as water, but at least, The headache has gone.

WoW!
Reading this page just made my day, probably my entire week! FrostyTurnip, That's great news! And as a bonus, it sounds like Moose is feeling better too! It doesn't get much better than that.
Thanks, for the uplifting updates!
