That is an awesome pre-freeze harvest, chrysanthemum . I don't know if it's because the plants and vegetables here are already brown and dead or what, but all the vegetables in your pictures appear exceptionally green. Wow, just looks great, some fine eating there...

Nice pickens Chrys. No sense in letting them go to waste. All of a sudden fried green tomatoes come to mind. I haven't had any of those in years, lol. Enjoy!

I’m hoping that a good number of them will actually change color inside. If they don’t, I may have to give fried green tomatoes as try, though. As southern as I am, I’m honestly not sure that I’ve had them before. My mother may have made them sometime when we were little because she’s not one to let things go to waste, but it wasn’t something she did at the end of every season or anything.

Fried green tomatoes are similar to fried squash, but with a much tangier flavor. Your kids will probably love them.

OK, admittedly I am not fond of summer squash, but I think fried green tomatoes are way better, LOL. Firmer texture, tomato-y flavor. Better than bland old squash. But best if eaten immediately after frying, which complicates putting dinner on the table.

With those last two posts, now I’m finding myself wondering if I should make fried green tomatoes to accompany our leftover chicken for supper tonight. Our freeze isn’t supposed to come till the middle of next week, though, but we a are definitely having a cool down already. I’ve been waiting to go outside this morning till the temperatures rises to 50 degrees. I have to do a lot of watering, and I prefer a little warmth and a little sunshine for that.

On the previous page of this thread, I posted a picture with a bunch of green tomatoes. I just wanted to update to say that a good number of them have been steadily ripening. I’ve used some in salads. The other night I cut up a bunch of Taigas (the green-when-ripe heart tomatoes pictured above) for Chicken Paprikash. I was very pleased with how they did, and I’m looking forward to trying them again in a better season. The cherry tomatoes have also been ripening, and I cut up more Taigas and bunch of cherries to make a quart of diced tomatoes for a large pot of soup. I’m planning to use a bunch of them tomorrow in a large salad for lunch. It was not a good summer for tomatoes, but I am pleased that I’m still having 2022 tomatoes at the start of 2023.
