My mother told me the other day that she’s still harvesting ripe tomatoes off the vines that she moved to her sun porch, but the vines themselves have shriveled.
She also mentioned that she made chili with green tomatoes and shell beans yesterday and that it was delicious. Her statement in her daily e-mail to family today was, “Now I know what to do with green tomatoes.”

I'll bet that was some excellent chili. That sounds like a really good idea. I used some green tomatoes as a garden pizza topping a few days ago, along with anything else I could scrounge after the freezing temperatures. The pizza turned out really well.

I wonder how well they would replace tomatillos?

I bet green tomatoes would make an excellent substitute for tomatillos.
My wife sliced and freeze dried a bunch of green tomatoes we got from Ron. They are absolutely to die for! I'd eat them straight out of the ziplock bag if... she hadn't hidden them!

I'm still laughing about that George.
That's what happens if I dehydrate those paper-thin pear slices, sprinkled with brown sugar and cinnamon.
