That is looking great, woodeye. Those extensions must have been heavy lifting, and I can’t imagine that installing them by yourself was easy. Good work.

Thanks, I might cut them off someday, or put flags on all of them. I could strengthen the whole setup if I have pipe going from side to side, plus it would help straighten things out. The span is 23 feet, so I don't know yet how that is going to work. The top of the roll bar on my tractor is right at 8 feet tall, so the cross pieces would need to be up there enough to allow for sag. I can always unbolt the roll bar to have more clearance, but I prefer not to do that. Just have to wait and see. This entire project is having to be taken one step at a time, then adjust as necessary. Which also sounds exactly like everything else I do every day...

That is looking great, woodeye . Those extensions must have been heavy lifting, and I can’t imagine that installing them by yourself was easy. Good work. Thank You, chrysanthemum. They aren't as heavy (luckily) as they look, but are still substantial. The pipe is heavier duty that the top rail pieces that I'll use for the sidewalls, but they weren't really too bad. I have to go hunt down 4 more pieces at least 10 feet long tomorrow morning. I was not able to work on the Iron Curtain today, I had a long day helping my brother, but during the next week I hope to have the entire skeleton of it completed.
I've also decided to look into hiring a neighbor to bring his bulldozer to take care of the Blackjack and other trees near it, plus trees on the north end. After getting in closer to it yesterday, it is probably bulldozer material. If I can afford to hire him, it would save me countless days, or weeks, of work out there and I could get back to other projects I have waiting in line right now...

I’m glad you were able to help your brother. I hope it gave your body a little break from all the heavy lifting. Ten foot long pieces of metal must be pretty substantial. I’m glad it wasn’t too bad working with them. I think you’re making great progress.
The projects never end, do they?

That's true, chrysanthemum, the rest that I sort of got yesterday helped sore muscles. This cold weather is creating replacements however. I'm looking at an afternoon edition of the Iron Curtain construction for today. I'll still have my usual 3 hour workday, so it really won't make any difference when that 3 hours happens. And yes, the projects are never-ending it seems...

Yesterday must have depleted my energy reserves more than I thought. Thinking that I could cruise through 8 more post extensions today did not come to fruition. I searched my chainlink fence boneyard first thing, I did manage to procure enough pipe for 4 post extensions. Hauled those back to the garden and added them to the cut and drill pile. One pipe was extra heavy duty, but I had to use it, so I started with it. Got it and one more pipe cut and drilled, then installed 4 post extensions. By the time I got that done, I was exhausted. I don't even have a photo as proof, but will finish the last 4 post extensions tomorrow and take a picture. Until then, I'm chair-ridden. Hope I didn't catch some kind of disease at the hospital yesterday while waiting on my brother's treatment to finish. I'm not usually needing my intensive care chair like this...

I’m hoping it’s nothing more than being worn out from hard work on the Iron Curtain and a long day yesterday. It might be a good idea to get some extra sleep tonight if you can. We don’t want you getting sick.

I'm back at it today with more vim and vigor, all symptoms of fatigue are gone. So that is a Yay!
Completed the post extensions on the east side this morning. Next up will be the horizontal pieces (top rail) on the west side. I'll start installation of those tomorrow, and plan to use (3) 68 foot lengths of top rail attached to the posts/extensions. One at the bottom, one at about 46 inches from ground level, and one at the 7'-6" mark. Upon completion of that, I will start unrolling/untangling chainlink fence fabric. Many Thanks to my Advisory Committee members for their helpful comments...

Moving forward at a snail's pace, but at least I got a few more parts installed today. Windy conditions tomorrow will likely cause me to work on installing the 2 horizontal pipes on the east side instead of the fence fabric on the west side. It will be enough of a battle when I start the chainlink fence fabric installation, without having to fight the wind. At least I got 2 of the 68 foot lengths of pipe off the ground today. There will be at least one more 68 foot length of pipe above the 2 shown in the photo, but it will be installed after the bottom chainlink fence fabric is installed (on a non-windy day). The east side is going to be 69 feet long, so it is 1 foot longer. I just eyeballed it when installing the posts, but it really won't matter about that as long as it stands up to the terrorist deer attacks that will happen in the future...

Looking good, Woodeye! I'm not sure what kind of snails you have there, but they appear to be pretty speedy.
That's a lot of progress.

That's a lot of progress. Does anybody else remember an old movie called “The Never Ending Story”? I loved seeing that when I was a little kid. There were racing snails in that film. I, too, wondered the speed at which those snails move, considering that the work accomplished today looks substantial. Good job, woodeye!

You need a helper, Woodeye. I cringe when I see this! I'm working at it slowly and safely, amyinowasso , but I can understand your point. I think of my Kubota tractor & Honda four wheeler as my helpers, without them this project would not be possible. Please rest assured that I will be safe in completing this monstrosity, and know that I look forward to sitting inside the Iron Curtain next summer, snapping pictures of my well-protected plants...

Horizontal pipes installed on far side today (east), got an earlier start than yesterday. Next step will be chainlink fence fabric deployment. Plan to take the day off tomorrow. Fencing will commence thereafter, however inclement weather may be a factor during the next few days...
