The following from Remy’s site. I found the info from the waybackmachine website. This is a very pretty bean that I got from Remy. I copied the above info box off her internet site. Here are some pictures of my grow out this year.

When you posted the picture of the grey eyed greasy beans awhile back, I looked all over the internet and couldn't find them. In fact, that's when I discovered that the Sample Seed Shop website was no more to be seen. I'd be just like you, I'd definitely want to keep that variety going. Beautiful!

woodeyeI posted a link to Remy’s site on the waybackmachine. It’s in the sample seed site thread. I snap shot all the beans, so I can keep them as I feel her info is too valuable to lose.

Well the above didn’t work at all! I guess the sun reflecting off the tin, burned the leaves. Luckily not too bad before I noticed and got them moved. I moved them out to a place with afternoon shade. Close call, but disaster averted I hope. I will update tomorrow and try to get pictures of new home. Today was spent trying to arrange peas around yard so hopefully they won’t cross. The only cowpea I kept on porch was Polecat. I plan to keep the polecat and woods mountain on porch. At least that’s the plan.

After moving the beans yesterday, I didn’t have time or enough string to fix them like I wanted. This afternoon I had everything needed, so I put the Grey Eyed Greasy beans and the Big Boy peas on the Northeast side of the house under a small tree. I’m trying to get the greatest distance between the pea varieties, but still be able to water the containers effectively.

I moved The Grey Eyed Greasy beans to this tree. I also put the Big Boy Peas out here too, to make watering a bit easier.

I had high hopes, but they aren’t doing anything. I just don’t know what to make of it. Update picture August 17th

I think these are about to fizzle out. They either hate my climate or hate their container home. There has been absolutely no growth at all even though it’s been cooler. I hate to throw in the towel, but there’s other things I could be growing in those containers. I’ll give them another week, then reclaim the containers. It’s a shame. What a pretty bean, plus it’s so rare!

Is it possible that they might benefit from a dose of fertilizer? I don’t know what the nutrient situation in your soil mix was or how much rain you’ve been getting, but I know that last year I had one shishito pepper in my garden and two others in containers on the deck, and my garden one outperformed the containers by a long shot until I figured out that all the rain we were getting last year was washing nutrients out of the soil in my containers. Once I fertilized them, they bounced back and increased productivity. It might be worth a shot of something, even nitrogen since they have so little foliage at this point. I’d be curious to see if they would start growing after a dose of fish emulsion or something like that, maybe more balanced.
I’ve never used a bean inoculant, but I wonder if some of the beans that are struggling in containers just haven’t been able to fix nitrogen from the air for some reason. Obviously others are doing it just fine. I don’t know what would be different in the varieties. I’m just kind of musing with my fingers right now.

chrysanthemumI might try some tomato tone as that’s all I have at the moment. I did not inoculate them, but did put soil from last year’s bean container. What I did when I mixed the soil for the containers this year was to take a 5 gallon bucket of soil where I grew Tennessee Cutshort beans last year and mix it with store bought compost. I have to assume the compost is ok since other things are growing well. It’s a head scratcher!

Can you believe this??? I had written this one off. In fact, I haven’t even looked at it for a few days. I went out to the tree tonight to get the flower pot so I could plant some greens in it. This thing has greened up nicely and looks like It wants to climb. I doubt it has enough time to do anything, but I hate to throw in the towel.

Cool, definitely looks nice and green. Hope it has time to make a bean or two, would be nice to have a sun porch for it to sit in soon...
