The count is up to 96. There are 4 more pods, but they are still green. Looks like we will break 100 if all goes well. The vines still ok and are not dying, so maybe they will bloom and go again.

I tried something today. I have one pea pod that needs to dry down. The pea leaves were looking bad, but its got some nice new growth down lower on the plant. I took a pair of scissors and gave it a haircut, trimming off some of the old growth that looked bad. We’ll wait and see what happens. No big deal either way as I’ve saved plenty of seed, but I do like to experiment.

That sure is purdy! Kind of like Spring, times two. That ought to be a nice Winter's project.

Since I’ve moved to Texas, I’ve done a lot of cutting back of plants to let them grow out healthier foliage, and it works more often than not. I think you’ve got a good chance of success there. I cut back a Seminole Pumpkin to remove borer damage some time ago, and you would never know that that plant hasn’t been growing since the beginning of the season.

I thought of this thread today because I saw some leaves out on stem that I left above ground when I cut out my red noodle beans. I wasn’t pruning them; I was removing them entirely, and that little stem managed to push out new leaves. It just reminded me of your plants a bit, so I thought I’d check in to see how the Polecats are doing?

That’s wonderful, hmoosek. Can you tell how many seeds are inside it? I’m thinking you’re probably going to be over 100 with that one (or did I miss some somewhere?).

chrysanthemumI’ll have to count them to be exact, but we did break 100. This last pod is still on the green side and boy did the grasshoppers have a field day with it. I think I may only get 3 maybe 4 peas from it. Most all my peas have been labeled and bagged and it was a successful year. I was able to save seeds from every pea variety that I planted. Not a lot, but at and over 100 seeds from each variety. I’ll take years such as this with a big ol’ smile! What the hay…Tell ya what. I’ll go snap a picture! Be back in a jif.
