Weekly update Aug 8th. They are doing ok, but don’t seem to be thriving as well as Calico. Calico beats the snot out of these in both growth and looks. I have most of the calico in the ground with only 1 being in the pot, so that could be why, but I don’t think so as I’ve got lots of peas in pots that are thriving!

August 17th. The storm has really set these back. There’s still life left though.

Looking good!
Isn't it amazing what plants can come back from? That will never cease to amaze me.

Looking good!
Isn't it amazing what plants can come back from? That will never cease to amaze me. It is amazing. I was certain these were toast. I wanted these to grow so bad because the fellow that grew these lived in the town where I pumped gas as a young man. I never had the chance to meet him though as he had died a few years prior to me working there. It’s a tiny one horse town.

Moose, that's a magnificent reason to be growing those plants! Best of luck in your endeavor!

I’m so glad that they weren’t “toast.” (I just used that expression to my six year old the other day and totally confused him. Sometimes it’s really hard to explain idioms.)

It took awhile, but they finally decided to grow a bit. I was beginning to wonder. They are behind all my other peas, but they don’t look bad, they just aren’t what I call vigorous. Photo Update September 2nd

They look healthy, I have to say, even though they’re not vigorous yet. I sure hope they’ll produce for you so that you can get more seed.

Well, it’s been a few days, so I thought I’d update the picture. They look so much better! Polecat Cowpea September 10th

Those look great. I’d even go so far as to say “vigorous.” Thanks for continuing to give us updates.

The plants started looking bad since this photo. Leaves looking blotchy with round black spots. Happened overnight. However, in spite of looks, it’s starting to bud out. All I can do is wait and see I guess.

That’s too bad, HMooseK. I hope they’ll pull through and give you some seed, especially since they’re beginning to bud. I have no expertise in beans and peas, and I find it impossible to tell from pictures what kind of problem plants might be having. I still look for resources and try, though, and I found an article that has some good photos. Usually, the best I can do is say, “Well, at least my plant doesn’t look like that.” Maybe you’ll be better at playing “match the symptoms” than I am. plantvillage.psu.edu/topics/bean/infos

I thought I’d throw up a couple pictures. Notice the leaf curl too?

In spite of looking bad, they are starting to bloom. I noticed a couple of blooms yesterday and a few more today.
