My second to oldest Son called me today, very excited to share the following news, "Dad, I've finally found a way to keep the flies away from my animal enclosures!"
He lives on a farm, way out in the country, over toward Fort Gibson and has spent hundreds of dollars through the years, buying various poisons to deter common houseflies, gnats, horn flies, horseflies, and other pests with very little to no success.
Then, he read somewhere to mix Pine-sol 50/50 with water and spray it around your enclosures to keep flies away. (He said, he mixed it stronger than that, but didn't use it straight. He was guessing 75/25?
He said that it takes a few days to soak in to the point that the flies don't return, but also mentioned that this concoction knocked the flies right out of the air as he was spraying it. He couldn't say enough about how well it worked. He was very happy, after trying so many other things that didn't work, plus it was only $4.99 for a 40 ounce bottle on Amazon, or $8.18 for a 100 ounce bottle at Walmart (way cheaper than poison).
He also said that he can hardly stand the smell of it, but it was way worth putting up with the smell, in order to get rid of the flies that have been buzzing around his place, making him crazy during all of this rain.
