Good evening gang. I'm looking for some stuff for my 1830s Cherokee garden in the honor of my late grandmother this year to help remember her. Those including Cherokee tan pumpkin, Cherokee gourdseed corn, Cherokee fall bean, Cherokee red okra, Cherokee Wildwood pumpkin, Cherokee butterbean and Cherokee Trail Of Tears corn. For my Potawatomi, I'm looking for calico sweet corn, which has been historically recorded, red flour corn, Red Lake flint corn which used to be grown by them on the East coast on their way to the Great Lakes, Potawatomi-Kickapoo pumpkin, gray rabbit bean, and few others that used to be grown widespread throughout the Calumet region of Chicago and Indiana. My gardens will focus on the Calumet region and in the Trail Of Tears era in the 1830s to gain awareness. Will somebody please help me find the right things to help me accomplish these goals for my community gardens at my community farm this year? Thanks!

Hi Blake,
I don't have anything new that you're looking for. We'll see what others might have. The Cherokee tan pumpkin is most likely very similar to Old Timey Cornfield Pumpkin. I'm about certain they had a landrace of c. moshatas which were all fairly similar. With time and isolation a number of strains would have been preserved, each being called by a varietal name.

I'm definitely interested in the tan pumpkin for this year's garden to honor my late grandmother. Anybody else grown a tan pumpkin before?
