My youngest son found a good-sized cache of about 7 or 8 pounds of wild, Oyster Mushrooms growing on a dead oak log last week and served them with a side of roast beef for dinner one night; they had a wonderful flavor! and a nice texture. I was smoking a few meats tonight and found myself craving them, but I didn't have time. A few things like that are still out and about this time of the year, if you catch them before the weather turns really bad. Some people use the Oyster Shell varirety as sort of a meat substitte in a few dishes (Not too bad! if I do say so myself!) Really good with a little brown gravy poured on them!

I've got some spore for grey oysters and am experimenting with raising them. They're great! Last year I found a bunch of them on a fallen tree on our back pasture area. We sure enjoyed them. They're one of the mushrooms which is pretty easy to identify and safe. I bet there will be a lot more if we get a decent rain soon.

Thanks, for posting that link, George. I couldn't get any photos that I found to transfer to this page and I didn't take any photos before we ate the ones that Josh found. I'll bet you're right, after this warm spell, if we get any rain, there will probably be more of them out there. We usually look for them in late-October to early-November but this Autumn has been unseasonably warm.
