Hello!
I am an extension agent in horticulture with the LSU AgCenter. I am in the process of building a seed bank of vegetable varieties that would have been typical for northern Louisiana. I'm housed in Ouachita Parish, where, for over 120 years, LSU maintained the Calhoun Research Station (formerly the North Louisiana Experiment Station). I've been successful at locating some of the releases from the old station, which is now closed. Currently, there three corn varieties I'm trying to track down if they're still out there somewhere. These are 1) Calhoun Red Cob, 2) Sentell's White Dent, and 3) Stewart's Yellow Dent.
I'm also interested in any non-LSU heirlooms that may be out there, too.
Thanks, and I look forward to interacting on this forum!

Welcome to the forum! Your new post just caught my eye and stirred my nostalgia as my father was born in Ouachita Parish. His family moved to Morehouse Parish where he was a child, and I well remember visiting my grandmother there when I was young.
I’ve relatively new to the forum and to seed saving myself, so I don’t have help to offer on the particular corn varieties you’re seeking, other than to mention that you might consider directing an inquiry to Sandhill Preservation in Iowa, if you haven’t already done so. Others on this forum may have more helpful ideas.

Welcome Kerry!
I have not heard of those corns, but the advice about Sandhill Preservation Center is good. Also Victory Seeds (Mike Dunton) might be able to direct you to someone who could help. Though located in the Pacific Northwest he has a partnership with a southern company which has some real depth to it. At the moment I can't remember the name of the other company.

Welcome Kerry! I have not heard of those either, but hope you are able to track them down.

Nice to hear from you, Kerry. We'll keep our eyes peeled. I have a few unnamed varieties of red dent corn leftover from a Three Sisters planting that Cherokee Nation did here last year, if you'd be interested.
