Love that photo, hedgeapple. Thanks, for posting that. It sucks that the days are getting too short to keep on gardening, but if the world didn't suck, we'd all fall off.

The okra looks great. What appears to be a stink bug, not so much.

A few extra special seeds from my best plant for next year. I have two new-to-me varieties to grow out next year. One is a newer variety with promise that some of you know and love, and the other is an okra that has been in the same family in Georgia since before the Civil War. The latter has never been shared outside the family to their knowledge and the only reason it is being given now is that the current custodian of the seed is getting older and no one in the family is interested anymore. Tsk, tsk, tsk... My son's Windridge in Austin is still alive. Don't recall having a Christmas okra before. 😊

Congratulations on your seed harvest!
Is your son’s Christmas okra producing pods these days? Mine kept flowering, but the pods didn’t develop quickly enough, so we cut the stalks down a couple of weeks ago. It has been a really warm December down here, I think possibly record setting for parts of central Texas. I’m worried about some of my perennial plants not getting hardened off properly for winter, but I’m still growing peppers and tomatillos in the garden. Bizarre!

As of a few weeks ago he was still having a few pods set. He also harvested an enormous watermelon just two weeks ago. Strange year for sure. ✔

Well, Jack Frost finally decided to make his rounds in Virginia. Our power has been knocked out for 13 hours, but we are cozy. I had a 'feeling' people were being too confident about a gentle winter and stocked up on propane and good seasoned firewood.

Wow! 15" inches of snow!
I'm sure glad your 'spidey senses' warned you of the impending weather. That's quite a deep blanket of snow you have there! Nothing quite like the feeling of being well prepared. I'm happy for you. Thanks, for posting that photo; it's beautiful there.

15 inches. Wow. My mother got just under seven, but her whole area in central Virginia has been hit really hard with power losses. Thankfully she has a wood stove and plenty of wood as well as water in her rain barrels that she can boil on the stove. (Much of the snow is melted by the sun, but the cold is causing refreezes into ice.). Her landline phone is also knocked out, but I’ve been able to talk to her because she has a kind neighbor who drove down with his tractor and picked up her cell phone to charge it as his house where he has a generator. With her woodstove and oil lamp and plenty of canned food from her garden, she is cozy where she is, though I’m sure she’ll be glad once she gets power back.
