I did a little harvest of Shishitos today. They’d been on the plant for a while and mostly weren’t large, but some were turning red. There aren’t enough for a side dish on their own, so I put them with some of the other small harvests I’ve had and will probably sauté them all together.

I just started some seed Saturday. My hope is to have a good size patch of Shishito this year. By the way, I finally found a hot one. It was one of those I let dry for seed. I just got around to getting the seed out of the dried pods, the day I used them. It was really an easy task. The pods were pretty intact afterwards and I ate one. It was delicious. It had a nice flavor though almost no heat. I put the rest in a bowl on the counter and during the day I snacked on them. That evening I was telling Jerreth that though they weren't hot, they would go very nicely in a soup or stew. She mentioned that our daughter, who often eats with us, cannot even tolerate bell peppers. As we were speaking I occasionally munched on another dried pepper half, but that last one... WELL! It was different. I ended up downing a glass of milk to get my voice box functioning again!
I look forward to finding one of those green.

That was a good story about your finding the hot pepper, macmex. In my case, the first hot shishito that I found was the very first one I ever ate. That was a surprise.

I noticed my first Shishito fruit quite recently in the garden. I always think there’s something the reinforces hope when plants start to bear, so I thought I’d take a picture to mark the occasion.

I picked my first Shishito today and enjoyed eating it, too. All four plants, both the two topped by deer and the two that grew unnibbled, have lots of flowers. I hope to have a family-sized harvest in the next few weeks.

Chrysanthemum,
That's amazing to me how far ahead you are there than we are in Northeastern Oklahoma.
