Got up late this morning, stepped outside to go check the Iron Curtain and water if necessary. I had no idea that it had been raining, I love surprises like that! The rains have all been missing me lately, so thankful to have a rain delay today. Yay!

Woodeye,
Glad to hear it was too muddy at your house to get any watering done today.

This is a really interesting weather video that shows some recent good news about the drought being destabilized across much of the West.
Hopefully, that heavy rain didn't come right during the wheat harvest. There used to be huge swaths of thousands of acres of wheat right here in Northeastern Oklahoma, but due to severe June storms that laid the wheat flat, causing it to become so mildewed that it had to be sold as cattle feed for an entire decade, they moved most of the wheat production farther West. I haven't seen a wheat field around here since back in the '80s. All those fields are either hay or fallow now and have been for nearly 40 years.
Climate change is as real as the nose on your face.

The Rain Crow was out, singing with all its might this morning at 6:00 am. I don't believe I've ever heard him singing quite so loudly, so early on. It made me curious enough to look at today's forecast, only to see that we have an 80% chance of storms; mainly before 10:00 am.

Heavyhitterokra, thanks for that link above. I watched the video and then looked at one of the websites that was often shown on the screen: ag-wx.com . There’s a lot there to study.

I remember when Oklahoma had a website up about their weather modification programs.
SUNUPTV said they started the wheat harvest in Oklahoma two weeks ago from yesterday. They said yields were expected to be lower than normal, but a harvest was a goin. They’ll prolly just export it to the highest bidder.

How did you all fare with storms last night? I’ve heard some reports of strong winds and hail, even tornadoes, closer to Oklahoma City. I know Oklahoma is a big place, of course, but I just wanted to check on you folks up there.
We’re hunkering down for heat down here. We’re expecting triple digit temperatures with high humidity, so an even more dangerous heat index. I’ll get out to the garden for a check and a little watering this morning, but my plan is to have it be a mostly inside day today.

I got a fairly good rain last night, approximately 3/4". My brother says it was windy enough that it rocked their motorhome, even though it is sitting on leveling jacks. I rode out to the Iron Curtain to see if the staking job I did yesterday afternoon was sufficient. Luckily it was good enough, I have zero plants flattened and/or broken. Very thankful for the rain!

Thanks for the update, Woodeye. Did the storms get less severe as they moved across Oklahoma? The only news I heard this morning was about Perryton, Texas, up in the panhandle where there was a lot of destruction, numerous injuries, and even some fatalities. It’s a very sad situation to hear when lives are lost.

We got a few sprinkles here, but the ground in my garden is still so hard and dry that pulling weeds there is similar to pulling them out of the cracks in a sidewalk.

I only live about 5 miles from Ron. Last night we got nothing. Could hear the thunder and see lightening but it didn't rain. I think this morning we got about a quarter inch of rain. In Tahlequah proper, about 6 miles further South I believe we had about 1/2" of rain today. It really came down at the University this morning.
