I’m so glad to hear about the Warsaw pumpkins. Everything I had out did fine, except the Rosselle seedlings. All I needed to do was set them on the porch, but I forgot.
Ryan Hall Ya’ll had an interesting forecast. He’s usually pretty accurate and in this case it looks like Tucs might get some cold weather (or a cool down). And if Ryan is right, my portion of Oklahoma is gonna be hot and dry or just crazy. It’s May, still tornado season.
Chrys might get rain and a cool down.

Macmex and heavyhitterokra, I’m glad you all didn’t suffer more damage from that unexpected frost. Whew.
Frosty, I watched that Ryan Hall video tonight, too, and partway into it, I went back to the beginning and showed it to my husband. I don’t want violent weather for anyone, but it sure would be good if we got some soaking rainstorms down this way. I hope May isn’t too hard on you up there.

Yeah, they tested the sirens about a hour ago. I was outside peening and boy it is beautiful out. The dog went nuts when the sirens went off and before I could think about it, the kids barreled out the front door with shoes and jackets on headed to the shelter. But the skies are clear and sunny. Yeah, they’re all trained well. Keh

Sure enough, now, at 3:15 pm our high is 80F, more than 20 degrees below normal. But because it's coming in with a stiff breeze, I'm needing to irrigate, even more than if it were 100F, without the wind.

We had rain overnight and all day today. The overnight storm was something of a doozy but thankfully there was no hail and no damage except to my sleep. My youngest is quite afraid of storms, so it was pretty hard on him. When I went out to check the rain gauge in the mid morning, we had just over one inch of rain, and there were still some light showers after that. I checked the gauge again this evening [while it was still sprinkling], and we’d had another three tenths of an inch.. There’s more in the forecast, too. I’m thrilled.
If I can get the time, I’d love to use my volunteer sweet potato slips to plant out during this wet weather. I’m not sure I’ve got the time tomorrow,, but I’lll be looking for an opportunity.

Chrys, I’m happy about your rainfall, much needed. Glorious and refreshing, isn’t it? We’re wet, too. Forecasted rain all week.
Gary McManus, the Oklahoma state climatologist wrote about yesterday being “Day 1” of “Rainy season”. Overall he seemed pessimistic which appears odd given the rain breaking a very long period of drought in Oklahoma. But, then, crops had difficulty the last two years because of a lingering late rainy season causing them to languish beneath clouds and the season to become shorter all together.
I’ll stick with being grateful for the rains as we are still under moderate to severe drought. No rain before summer means continuance of extreme drought for my zone. Perhaps the rain will help ward off the cabbage looper moths. I potted my pumpkin and watermelon seeds. I can drag them in under lights if need be.
I’m in the process of scything the entire yard. Some grass and forbs are more than 2 ft tall. I let it grow in to mitigate drought. Looks lush, but as soon as I cut it down, the bare parched soil is evident. The rain is causing me to hurry as most of it is cow parsley. Ouch. LOL
Drink up, ya’ll! Tucs, I wish we could share.

Thanks, but it's okay, I spent nearly a decade living in Oak Harbor, WA; where it rained nearly every day of the year. It took almost a year to adjust to that weather, rubber boots were everyday footwear. I remember driving down the freeway, wipers going full-speed, but it was raining so hard, even with a clear windshield you couldn't see a foot beyond the car. I wonder how any of us managed to get down the freeway unscathed.

Man, it's raining cats and dogs here right now. I bought chicken leg quarters this afternoon to cook out on the grill, on the way home the sky just busted open! It was raining so hard that I had my windshield wipers on full blast and still had to slow down to 35 mph just to be able to see the highway ahead of me. That worked better than buying a new pair of white sneakers!

Tornado-friendly weather coming in for Oklahoma. Potential severe flooding incoming for parts of Texas.

I just read our local weather forecast, and they’re currently calling for drenching rains and possible flash floods for overnight Friday into Saturday morning. They even said four to six inches of accumulation possible.
I looked at Ryan Hall to see if he had anything new, and he’s live-streaming now. At the moment of my posting he’s focusing on Kansas, but he did mention having storm chasers in Oklahoma, so I thought I’d post the link. Be safe up there, y’all.

Thanks for that. Yeah, we’re gonna get slammed about 8pm. Ryan did say the flooding would be life threatening but I wasn’t certain where in accordance to your location so I didn’t want to be an alarmist. I hope you get a lot of rain, but no flooding. Just enough for your little boy to plan in the puddles.

Wa are definitely in the danger zone area as a whole. Thankfully our particular house is well situated. We are going out in about an hour to take care of one last errand we need to do before the weekend, and then we’ll plan to stay home for the rest of today and tomorrow since our main road can flood in both directions.
I top dressed lots of garden beds with compost this morning. I figure the rain can wash the nutrients down and settle it in.
I also took lots of photos as I often do when we expecting a storm. I’m going to go post a few in appropriate fora.

Chrysanthemum,
I just looked at the NOAA Satellite images of your area. weather.ndc.nasa.gov/cgi-bin/post-abi
It looks like you guys have a doozy headed your way from the Del Rio, Eagle Pass, region this evening. Hopefully, you just get the rain and not the hail nor damaging winds. I'll bet the before and after pictures you get will be wonderful with the potential for everything there to green up after this week's rains.
It looks like Central Oklahoma might get parts of the same storm system later on as it moves in a Northeasterly direction. It sure would be nice for Frosty, Moose, and Woodeye to get some rain too, but not any damaging winds or hail. You never know this time of year though.
In years past, I've had good luck using staked tomato cages covered in chicken wire to repel the biggest part of hail from damaging my young transplants and baby pumpkin starts. A burlap sack draped over a triad of rebars also works well as a last minute measure.

heavyhitterokra, it sure does look like a big storm system. I couldn’t pull up the radar that you linked for some reason, but I’ve been checking a couple of different sites this afternoon, and it sure looks like there’s a lot of power headed our way. I’m hoping that we won’t get hail. I thought about putting up my shade cloth as a form of protection but really couldn’t manage that today. Rain seems to be the biggest part of their predictions, and I sure do want the rain. Beggars can’t be choosers, though. My youngest child has some storm anxiety, so he’s been a bit on edge today. I just made him up a little bed in a walk-in closet that we have, so he’s feeling better about being in a room with no windows. He’ll also be very near to us if he does wake up because of storms. We’ve been praying today for God to help him be brave if He does send us storms. I’m hoping we can get him settled down to sleep before they really kick up.

Good news here this morning, I stepped outside and it rained last night, but there aren't any tree limbs laying around, so that's always good news. Appears that I got 3/4" of rain last night and this morning.
If any of you are still using the www.iweathernet.com/total-rainfall-map-24-hours-to-72-hours website, is it working right for you?
It doesn't zoom in on locations like it used to when I looked at it, so I don't know if it's the website that has the problem, or if it's the web browser I use on my laptop that is causing the problem. 🤷♂️
