These baby sprouts do show a little bit of purple color, when they are new (to my old eyes, that looks mostly like a pink tint), but it quickly fades as they mature.
Presently, nearly all the asparagus seedlings are producing, at least, their second leaves/stalks. One is on its 3rd, and the most advanced, is on its 4th. I should, probably, pot them up into larger individual containers.

It sounds like they are really doing great and off to a wonderful start. Good work.

Update; One of the seedlings, with only one leaf/stalk about 3-4 inches tall, but with a second stalk forming, has 2 flower buds at the tip of its first stalk, the 'Precoce D'Argenteuil' variety, not the 'Purple Pashion'. Apparently, 'Precoce D'Argenteuil' can also have a purple tint.

@tucson Grower, my purple passion asparagus just started popping up in the last couple of days. I thought you might like some pictures of it. I picked just four spears today, and I ate one of them on the spot. Yum. I really enjoy raw asparagus right out of the garden. I also really enjoy cooked asparagus right out of the garden, too, of course.

chrysanthemum gets the credit for my surprise of the day yesterday because her asparagus crop is moving right along, and it jogged my memory about my asparagus patch. I thought I remembered that mine never starts until the first part of May, but I decided I would ride out there and have a look-see. Good thing I did, a couple of the spears were already getting tall and tough. I snapped off the tender parts and had them for supper, some fine eating! I don't know with much accuracy how long the plants have been out there in the pasture, it's some that my dad planted back in either the 70's, 80's, or maybe early 90's. I don't know the variety either, but I do have one confirmed fact; It's good stuff!
