Well, my little okras all have their first true leaves and have been looking happy. Got a hissing downpour today. First rain we've had over here in in several weeks. Hope they all made it!

I was just looking up drought conditions for Virginia for my mother last night when I talked to her on the phone. Most of the central part of the state where she lives has moved into moderate drought, and the eastern and western sides are abnormally dry. Only the northern counties have sufficient moisture at this point. Our area of Texas has just moved out of drought conditions entirely. For the past few weeks it has seemed that my mother and I have switched weather. I’m not complaining, but she really wants rain. She’d take yours, Hedgeapple, if you can send it her way.

Okay, okay - the moment of truth is imminent for this Whidby plant.

The first of the Whidby White pods has set. Not the palest okra I have seen, and it is heavily ridge like Star of David. We'll see how they fill out. 7 of the seeds I planted survived - I suspect that several of them burrowed too deep due to rain immediately after planting in May.

What color did that end up being on the color scale they sent?

What color did that end up being on the color scale they sent? Gonna give it a day or two for final color and then I'll put a card up. 👍🏻

I lack experience with white okra, but that looks pretty good to me!

That one really catches my eye. Beautiful and apparently modest, too. Did they give instructions about whether to analyze the color at the stem end or blossom end or an average? In the previous picture I would have had a hard time matching those colors. This one seems almost as pale as a 2 from the photo, depending on how one is supposed to make the assessment.
Thanks so much for keeping us updated and including photos. I really enjoy seeing what you’re doing on this project.

Think they are just gauging by overall "whiteness" of the pod. In one of his latest posts, Chris Smith mentioned that he wished he had added yellow tones to the color card. I agree. It reminds me of Silver Queen with a somewhat White/Lemon-Lime color. 😊
