Greetings friends and family! Buffaloberry here to find out if anybody knows any type of Native American or early European settler heirloom corn and grain from the Calumet Region of south Chicago and northwest Indiana, off the shores of southern Lake Michigan. I wanna begin with the tribes. I'll do corn. Potawatomi: 1. Mskagwat, (Potawatomi red flint), 2. Walpole Island white flour, 3. Potawatomi red dent, 4. Shawnee blue popcorn, 5. Potawatomi mix (flour corn) and 6. Potawatomi thunder or white flint corn. Miami: Miami white flour corn. Illinois: 1.Tamaroa or Shawnee white flour, 2.Tamaroa red stripe flour, 3. Tamaroa-Pawnee flint and 4. black Mexican or Iroquois black sweet corn. For grain, I have Shawnee-Ottawa oats which are supposed to be from the Calumet area. I'm looking for more types of corn and wheat besides those I have. Anybody out there who can aid me to more historic heirlooms? Out!

Welcome! Let's see if any of our readers can help, even with brainstorming on how to locate such heirlooms.
