Hi everyone, I'm Wenny from Milton, GA, north of Atlanta. I was brought to this site when googling Heavy Hitter Okra. This nice sweet lady Bonnie from Still Water Ag sent me some seeds, and one was the Heavy Hitter Okra. I was fascinated by the plant and the story of Ron.
This time yesterday, I watched the Netflix documentary "The Social Dilemma." I was shocked that how "hooked" I was to Facebook until I watched this show. I decided I was not going to spend hours daily on Facebook, Instagram, etc. anymore. It's been an exhilarating day so far, and I was so productive got tons of work done today.
When I found this site, I was excited to see the message bulletin board that I have not used for a long time. I hope to continue to learn and make gardening friends here.
I have been gardening near 20 years. It started when both my kids were little, and we would have them play in the backyard while I tend the garden. Back then, I met a group of great gardening friends through Gardenweb and Dave's garden. I have always been a flower gardener instead of edible since I'm terrified and petrified of caterpillars - they tend to be on edible more than flowers. This year with COVID I decided to grow some vegetables, so I don't have to run to the grocery stores as many times. I had so much fun with growing tomato, cucumber, greens, etc. Until a month ago, when I was picking tomato, and I almost picked one of those giant thumb-size capti. I was so terrified that I ran all the way home, screaming. My daughter came to rescue and picked over 20 of them off my three tomato plants. Oh, only if I can get over my fear, my gardening life would be so much more enjoyable.
Anyway, back to Okra. I actually didn't know about Heavy Hitter, so I looked it up. I love the story of how it came about. That's how it lead me to your site.
Fall is coming in a week, and we have a short 6-8 weeks or so before frost. I will enjoy every moment now I stay off those social media websites, and have so much more time to work in the garden now. I decided to change my Instagram Bio to "Get Off Social Media and Go Gardening" :-)
