Thanks for posting the link, heavyhitterokra. I had no idea that blister beetles ate grasshopper eggs. So to return the favor, I just searched the internet to see if there are any insects that eat blister beetles. Nope...

Well, last night I went out to water our Swiss chard and found this.We grew Swiss chard in a container with straw bale medium and have enjoyed eating this crop all summer with no let up. But...Blister beetles attacked yesterday! It will be some weeks before the chard recovers enough for more harvesting.
This somewhat disproves my theory about blister beetles subsiding after the first rains in late summer. While it's true they haven't been all over the place eating everything, they are still around and can cause massive destruction with little warning.

So sorry to see that, macmex. I "liked" your post, but in a different sense as to what the post contains. Good info about these horrible garden invaders...

Macmex, I am sorry to see such devastation to your chard. I do hope it can recover for you. Have you been able to put any in the freezer this summer?

Thanks, for posting that, George. It really helps to illustrate the damage that those bugs can do and how fast they can do it. In all my years of gardening in Hulbert I never had a problem with blister beetles, but ever since we moved here in 2004, we've battled them time and time again. (They are sneaky devils too). I hardly ever catch them in the act.
