I snapped a few foto's today. Quality of the foto's could be better but there is no sun out. There seems to be a shortage of sunlight here in Panama. I have red chili peppers all over my yard. I have completely lost interest in the medium heat chili's which are everywhere in the yard. Over-loaded with chili's and no one eats them. They rot and fall on the ground. I don't need them. I have super-hots. Pepper plants live for a long time here in Panama and most of the medium heat chili's are old plants that are now big and they just continuously produce. I even have plants left over from 2019 that over a year old and just keep on. I have been trialing different variety's for awhile. I now am pretty sure of which variety's I will keep growing and which will fall to the wayside when the plants finally die. Mostly I will grow the super hot peppers. They are far and away the best. They are even better than Panama's beloved Chombo but of course, that is a personal call. Chombo's are so easy to grow. I have them growing in the ground and they continue to produce indefinitely it seems. Same with the sweet Chinense variety's.
Here are few foto's I took today.
Juvenile Purple Thunder plants. Not very robust due to the weather conditions.
Close up of Purple Thunder number 3 plants-one is totally green.
This is a Bhut Jalokia. The plant itself is purplish. Peppers go from purple in color to a nice red. Peppers are nice sized and have very few seeds. Plant is small but this guy makes a lot of peppers. This variety is makes my list and will be grown again.
This plant was labeled in the seed bag as orange Bhut. Its a Purple Bhut jalokia. When I was starting these in seed starter pots they germinated either green or purplish. I only grew one plant of each variety that Rick sent me. I selected the purple seedlings and discarded the green. This plant is in a 5 gallon bucket. Its a good sized plant and is loaded with really nice sized chili's and they ripen to a beautiful yellow. Its a keeper. The chili's start out purple and ripen yellow. The plant is a beautiful purple. Seed saving from this plant is a no brainer. In a larger pot this plant would only have gotten bigger and produced more. Bhut Jalokia is under rated now in the chili world. In my opinion you can't beat them.
Just look at how beautiful these peppers are!! They come from the same plant as shown above. Plant is loaded.
This plant is in a larger pot. Probably a 7 gallon size. This is another Bhut Jalokia that Rick sent me. It was marked yellow in the seed bag and is indeed yellow. This plant is big and super productive. This plant was planted at the end of Jan which makes it about 5 months old-actually a little younger since the time includes time for germination. This plant is just covered over in peppers. Peppers are very nice sized and very beautiful.
Same plant different angle.
This is a foto of a smooth skinned Carolina Reaper. Peppers are huge and beautiful. Probably the most practical variety I have for its heat and flavor and ease of processing. They are easy because they are nice sized. Very juicy. Very spicey. Very prolific.
I will be carefully saving seed from these variety's.
