I've been using Rabbit Tobacco for several years as a remedy for cold sores, by chewing the leaf, or as a tea to calm a sore throat, or as a mild sedative to drink before bedtime.
I make tinctures of the dried leaves and dried flowers, to fight infections or to fight off symptoms of the flu.
I also use this herb in vases around the house, for its fragrance and winter beauty as a cut flower in various arrangements.
It has been my goal for a long time to find enough of this plant to make a full size pillow stuffed with the flowers of Rabbit Tobacco, as it is reported to be soothing for asthma sufferers. Finally, this Autumn, Josh and I found enough of these plants to stuff a full-size-pillow with 2-1/2 pounds of Rabbit Tobacco down. We just finished it yesterday. I slept on it last night. (It was awesome).
The flowers of the Rabbit Tobacco plant smell just like maple syrup. To the point that it flung a craving on the entire family and we had French Toast, with fried sausage, and scrambled eggs for supper, because of it. The new pillow radiates a very pleasing aroma.
From looking up the price of Rabbit Tobacco by the ounce, we've discovered that this would have been a very expensive pillow indeed if we had to buy our Rabbit Tobacco, rather than gathering our own.

It looks like Rabbit Tobacco on eBay is going for about $16.99 per ounce.
The pillow Josh and I made contains 40 ounces of Rabbit Tobacco leaves and blossoms. That makes it worth a little over $679.00
(Having a working knowledge of how to identify useful herbs, can save you a lot of cash on the homestead). Not to mention that it's just nice to make your own things by hand.
Sweet dreams ...
This is what the blossoms of Rabbit Tobacco look like. They are very light and airy.
Just as fluffy as a new feather pillow, but it doesn't smell like a chicken.
This is the same size as a regular feather pillow. I just bought a couple yards of pillow ticking from Walmart and made my own pillow case, then picked Rabbit Tobacco blossoms until it was stuffed full. Work isn't really work if you enjoy what you're doing. What better way to enjoy a bright, sunny, Autumn day than driving dirt roads, looking for Rabbit Tobacco. (Actually, it was several bright, sunny, Autumn days) but who's counting?
