Folks, I was browsing, while drinking some tea and calming a cough. I ran across The Sample Seed Shop's bean inventory It looks truly excellent. I'm full up on beans, right now, but I thought I'd mention it here.
Also, here's a link to a review I did on the Sample Seed Shop, about a year ago. I haven't used this company at all, yet. But that's not because of any fault of the company itself!

I purchased some seeds from Remy at the Sample Seed Shop back in 2013 I think. Nice lady, excellent service and seeds germinated very well, as I recall. I wouldn't hesitate to order from her again. Her business is truly a labor of love.

For being known as a seed saver, I rank really low on the number of seeds purchased in a given year. As time goes by, I find myself growing more of what I reproduce and less purchased seed. Today, however, I was simply browsing on the Sample Seed Shop website and fell to temptation. I ordered a packet of Spangler Pole Bean seed. My reason was that the variety description seems similar to Cherokee Striped Cornhill, which was a bean that my wife and I really loved, but which we lost, due to its sensitivity to our midsummer heat. Finally, I figured out that I just need to plant later so that it would flower after the extreme heat, but by that time my seed had expired. I have been unable to find any more of that seed. While browsing the Sample Seed Shop I discovered Spangler, which appears to be close. So, I ordered a packet. I already have my hands full with the beans I grow, but... I'll squeeze in one more!

Just a heads up: Remy Rotella, the owner of the Sample Seed Shop passed away, suddently, this summer. Such independent, privatlely owned seed companies are worth gold. I suspect that'll be the end of the company. Remy will be dearly missed by many seed savers.

Sad news. Hopefully, someone near him will follow his footsteps in the seed saving arena.
