My friend Kate sent me seeds of this variety. This bean was in Dan McMurray's collection. Annette did some research and come to find out, when Dan passed away, his collection was placed in a seed preservation seed bank. Anyways, they didn't grow the variety and no longer have it. It is suppose to be a bush variety. I had 18 seeds, I planted 9 and 7 came up. my hopes are to grow it out and share with as many people as I can.

Very nice. Do you know if it's a snap, shell or dry bean?
Tell us more about Dan McMurray.

Tell us more about Dan McMurray. I don't know any history of this bean. That's one of the excuses the seed preservation company gave for not growing it out. Annette contacted them and they told her they couldn't locate any history on this bean. Dan and his Wife were well known on several gardening forums as "Grunt & Grungy." They were always friendly & helpful. Here is some reading. grungysgarden.blogspot.com/2012/04/sadly-dan-mcmurray-passed-away-on.html?m=1

I remember Grunt & Grungy. I once requested some seed from them and they sent me something like 20 packets of seed, all of them good! They were written up in the Old Farmers' Almanac one year too.

They apparently were an amazing couple. Wish I could have met them!
It's a shame that their collection went to a seed bank that can't maintain it :<(

I would have loved to have known them too, what an amazing couple. I managed to capture some of their bean seed pics before they were taken down, great for identification purposes.

I thought the heavy rain took these out, but I picked them up out of the dirt and now they are trying to climb. This is my poor attempt at a trellis.

I was afraid these were toast, but they are very resilient. I've got blooms!

I have beans! Not a lot only 1/2 dozen pods, but I'll take what I can get. They are the only Beans that are doing well.
