Here's the announcement for our upcoming meeting, as I sent it to the newspaper, today.
I didn't mention that a friend has donated some seeds to give away at our next meeting. I can't remember them all, and they are not with me right now. But I do know she gave nearly a pint of paw paw seed and a large bag of luffa seed.
The meeting is in a new location. Pay attention to that!

Green Country Seed Savers will hold their March meeting on Sunday March 11, at 2 PM. This month we will be meeting at the Woodall United Methodist Church (24736 S. 470 Rd. Tahlequah OK 74464), to make it easier for those who live to the South of Tahlequah.
There is still time to start tomatoes from seed for the 2018 season. Some members will certainly bring tomato seed to this coming meeting (and peppers and squash and…).
Come on out if you would like to learn how to start your own tomato and pepper seeds. There is no need to bring anything, in order to receive seeds which are being shared. It can be hard to “escape” one of our meetings without having some seeds given to you!
Green Country Seed Savers is a group of gardeners, mainly from Green Country. We specialize in learning and sharing how to grow crops in our hot, variable climate; and love to share what varieties have done well here. If we can help you to be a better gardener and, possible how to save and preserve your own seed, we are happy!
Sioux was the #1 most popular tomato in Oklahoma during the 1950s. Within decades it was eclipsed by hybrids and newer varieties, becoming nearly extinct. Darrell Merrell (The Tomato Man) of Tulsa, Oklahoma, realized that it was missing and helped to reintroduce the variety, launching it back into popularity in 1996. If I could only grow ONE tomato, this would probably be it! Sioux is heat tolerant and a heavy producer of medium size, red tomatoes with the best old fashioned flavor.
