Hello. Annette gave me a link to this site. I used to talk to George all the time on Gardenweb and wanted to pop in and say hello. My username was HairyMoooseKnuckles, but it's come to my attention that term is now a vulgar term. When I started using that username in the 90's, it was just a funny name I made up because I'm big and hairy. I didn't want to use it now since it's a vulgar term. Anyways just wanted to say hello

Howdy! I remember you! We used to run into each other in the Beans forum, right? I had no idea that HairyMooseKnuckles is vulgar. It just made me think of a cartoon character. Welcome!
I still drop in on Gardenweb. Most days I visit Oklahoma Gardening and occasionally I drop in on the beans forum. But there's not much going on there.
Tells us about your growing interests, okay?
George

Yes Sir, it was the bean forum on gardenweb. I don't think the forum is too active anymore. I still chat with Flintknapper through email occasionally. He and I don't garden too much anymore. He is 92 and my health isn't too good. I still try to plant a bean or 2 and a couple of tomatoes along with a vine of squash. I miss being able to tend a big garden, but you know how life is. I bumped into Annette at another forum and remembered her username. Small world. Flintknapper was kind enough to send me a couple of his beans to try last year. I used to collect beans and peas, but lost most of my stock a few years back. I've been trying to keep my uncle's Cantaloupe seed going, but it gets harder every year. Don't know if you remember his Cantaloupe or not, but here is a picture. He started breeding it in the 70's. I've given it out to several people in different states over the years.

I didn't remember that cantaloupe. Did your uncle develop it himself? Did he name it? By the way, that's a beautiful melon!
I remember Flintknapper's Black Jungle Butterbean. I still have some of that seed, though I've been struggling to maintain the limas I have. I have to rotate one variety a year, and some years they don't make. I grew out Calico Willow Leaf Pole Lima in 2017. I don't know why, but it almost completely refused to make seed last year. Normally it does quite well.

Yes he developed it, but it was kind of by accident. He grew lots of melons and they kept crossing and he kept saving his seeds, over the years this is what developed. He liked it so well, he kept planting and saving. He is 88 and doesn't garden anymore, so I try to keep it going. A few years ago, I named it Charley's Pride.
The flesh is a light orange like a Cantaloupe, but the size is much larger. You will sometimes gets sizes of a pumpkin. Every now and again you get a white fleshed melon, but it's rare. The white fleshed are super sweet or at least the one time that I got one it was.

macmexHeard from Harry. He's doing fine. I made a goof on his age, he's almost 90, not 92. He was telling me he got a new Mantis tiller. I was glad to hear he was well.

Good! The Mantis is a good thing! That shows that he's still able bodied and has plans for this year! If he doesn't show up here, send him my greetings!
