Glad that you got a nice rain. All I got was a few scattered showers. That's so disappointing, a teaser. Hope some storms cover you some time this week.

I’m glad you kept your seed dry. I had a mishap earlier in the year with a sprinkler. Ha Ha!

Looks like Saturday's forecast is calling for a 90% chance of rain in the Tahlequah area, so maybe Hank will get some of that over in his direction. (Turnip sowing time!)

We had a storm blow through late last night. I’m not sure how much rain, but it was a pretty good rain.

Thanks be the Lord! We needed that rain. The cover crop I planted last month just fizzled. I think we'll stand a good chance at germination after this week though. looks like temperatures for around here (Northeast Oklahoma) will be in the 70s to low 80s for highs, mid-50s to 60s for nighttime lows. Good lettuce, radish, and turnip, sowing weather. I'm all for that!

It should be good for my two bean plants too!

I sowed turnips and Austrian winter peas in the east garden Wednesday after noon. I ran the sprinkler for a couple of hours. It coud use a lot more.

We got rain last night that lasted from 6:00 pm until after 6:30 am. It wasn't hard rain but it was steady. Probably a couple of inches I'd guess. It was a welcome sight for sure!

Holiday Postal Rate Increase.
The US Postal Service is implementing a Holiday rate increase effective this Columbus Day weekend, through December 31st, 2021.
This morning, it cost me $9.00 to mail two 7" x 9" envelopes of 100 seeds each. Postage has gone up 55 cents on a one ounce package since last month. When I try to send seeds in regular envelopes both the seeds and the envelopes are destroyed by the sorting machines. The Post Master informed me that I'd be liable for damages to their equipment if I sent seeds in an envelope that was torn up by their sorters. So, I have to send my seeds inside bubble wrap envelopes instead. I usually mail out 300 to 500 envelopes per year. So they keep a close eye on me. I guess that's what happens when you show up to the local Post Office with three paper grocery bags full of envelopes to meter and place postage on.
I just wanted to warn any of you out there who are about to send packages this holiday Season, be expecting higher rates.

In my memory the Post Office has never functioned efficiently, but with the pandemic it's gotten much worse.

In my memory the Post Office has never functioned efficiently, but with the pandemic it's gotten much worse. As a former letter carrier with many years of proud service, I can attest that this is true. The things I saw at the post office...

All the packages I sent out last December finally reached their destinations, even the ones I sent overseas, but some of them took 3 months to get there. (I still don't trust them). 2020 was the first year I ever had any trouble, but when it came, it came in buckets! I had over twenty packages in limbo for over a month by the time February 2021 rolled around.
This is an excerpt from my January 3, 2021 post:
Some websites that have posted 'OUT OF STOCK' are not really out of stock, they just had to post that to stop the orders until the Post Office starts delivering the packages that are currently in 'transit' which really means, (piled up in some warehouse).
I'm not actually out of stock currently, but I had to click that button on my website, otherwise, the packages just pile up at the Post Office and nobody knows where they really are. The Post Office is currently no help at all in locating these packages. The tracking on my missing packages has not been updated since December 13th. They all just read, Departed Tahlequah, in transit to next facility. The 'next facility' is not listed ... I'm told it's Tulsa ... but who really knows? (Very frustrating).
This is apparently a nationwide problem. This is an interesting thread to visit, concerning slow Postal service: www.edhat.com/news/packages-not-leaving-usps

I've finally started shelling the okra pods that I've been harvesting for the past several weeks. I have 23 pounds of seeds shelled out so far, and many, many, more days of shelling left ahead of me.

Congratulations! Do you use any kind of gloves to protect your hands while you shell out so many pods?
