Hi everyone, My name is John Ciesielski, I happened to stumble across this site a few times and I saw that I share the same passion and interests that you do. So, I decided to join! I live in Connecticut, I am a caretaker on a large property. I have been gardening for most of my life, I enjoy growing trees, shrubs and flowers, but if I had to choose, my favorite would be vegetables. Some of my favorite things to grow are muskmelons, watermelons, winter squash, irish potatoes, sweet potatoes, sweet corn, 'Atlantic Giant' pumpkins, tomatoes and peppers. (to name a few) I look forward to checking in on this site in the future. I hope to learn from everyone and share in any way I can.

Hi Macmex, it sure is a small world. Isn't it. I am excited I found this site, a lot of very knowledgeable folks like yourself on here. I was just reading an old post you made about sweet corn stalks not having as much strength to support pole beans. I have seen the same thing, but I never really thought about it until reading that. I usually grow a variety called ' Boone County White'. (from Sand Hill Preservation Center) I grow it mostly for it's height to bring to fairs for tall corn contests. I often would cut down some stalks and throw them into the cows. They would eat all the leaves and leave the main stalk. When I cut down the sweet corn for them, they will eat the whole thing, stalk and all. I think that proves your statement.

I know this is an old, old thread, but I just read it today because I’m trying to learn about the folks who post on this site. John, I read about your using cold to control aphids, and it got me to wondering where you were gardening. I’d love to know more about the property for which you are a caretaker and how you use your greenhouse at different times of year.

Hi, I'm new here too. My name is Alex, I moved into a new house not too long ago, now I'm renovating and trying to work in the garden. I have two sons, they work with me too. They like to be with me in the garden. I hope to find a lot of useful information here.
