Good morning, Spike. My in-laws lived for many years in North East Ohio (near Cleveland), though it’s been probably ten years since I’ve been to that area. They moved to Virginia to be closer to kids and grandkids, but our family ended up having to move to Texas about five years ago. I have a numbered of raised beds down here and try to grow a lot of different things. This year has not been a good one for me either.
I am sorry to hear that your garden has been “horrifyingly awful” this year. A lot of us have had some difficult seasons this year. I’ve had heat and drought the entire growing season, and that is now hitting the Oklahoma folks as well. Some of them have plagues of grasshoppers to boot. We share our failures here as well as our successes. It’s a nice community of folks who love to grow plants of all sorts, and we understand the disappointment when things don’t go the way we’d hoped.
Tell us more about your garden. We’d love to hear. Pictures are always welcome, too.

Spike, welcome aboard! My wife was just up your way. She got back home Monday of this week after attending a camp reunion at Cedarbrook Camp, near the lake. She grew up a significant part of her life, just North of Columbus, so we know the area a bit.
Well, come on in, take a gander of the forum and jump right in!

Welcome, spike! Horrifyingly awful, with good peppers, carrots, and squash?! You're too harsh on yourself. I can relate to planning for next year already, though. In fact, even before this season began I was thinking about 2023. People who don't garden think we're nuts. Looking forward to reading of your horticultural escapades.

Horrifyingly awful, with good peppers, carrots, and squash?! You're too harsh on yourself. Well I am excited about what is coming up but I planted like 11 - 40' rows of beans, peas and Lima beans and only about 5 seeds germinated. Never was able to even plant corn and everything else

Do you know what went wrong with the beans? Floods, drought, critters?
Most of what I’ve planted has grown this year (except for some corn problems), but it just hasn’t produced much food for us. I’m still working hard at keeping plants alive and starting some new crops for fall. @trifid, sometimes I even wonder myself if I’m nuts for working so hard on it with so little to show at this point. (It’s a good thing I have good photos and even some food still in the freezer from last year.)

chrysanthemum in all honesty I have no idea what happened? Just about the time I got them all planted, my husband started having some medical issues. Was in the hospital 8 days etc. (No idea, many tests, still testing, nothing life threatening) So I didn't really have time to deal with a huge garden anyway, so technically a blessing in disguise, but still heartbreaking. Fortunately we live near many many Amish and I am still able to get fresh picked, home grown veggies. Like these beans that are ready to be cleaned and canned!!

Kudos, Spike!
Nice score on the fresh snap beans. We used to live near the Amish community when I taught school up in Chouteau. I remember buying a bushel of tomatoes up there once, for $5.00 once, while they were inundated with freshly harvested produce. We canned nearly 30 quarts that weekend. Amish are the bomb! I loved it up there!
