Still Pickin' Blueberries! Those Climax Blueberries really have a long growing season. I'm still picking blueberries from those plants today. Although, this might be my next to last harvest, as they are finally beginning to play out. I ought to have plenty of frozen berries this season to keep me in blueberry banana bread all winter long. The good thing about the location of my berry patch is that due to the hillside and mature timber just East of here; the sun doesn't hit that spot until nearly 10:00 am, leaving plenty of time each morning in hot summer, to pick berries in the cool shade of the tall Hickory trees.
Oops, I accidentally loaded a photo of the ribs I'm smoking this morning, with red oak, hickory, pecan, and some blueberry B-B-Q sauce.
Here's what I was looking for. It's August 20th and I still have blue berries.
Some of these are so loaded, that all I have to do is strip them off the berry twigs.

I had banana bread on the brain this morning, I didn't have bananas, so I used blueberries, wild peaches, apples, and pawpaws instead. I just pulled it from the oven. I haven't cut a piece of it yet though, I ate too many ribs to be in the mood for any dessert just yet.
2 hour edit. The apple, peach, blueberry pawpaw bread turned out good.

Well, for somebody that was out of bananas, I'd say that you weren't hurting for substitutions. Your fresh out of the oven creation sounds wonderful, but I'd be in the same boat, I know I'd eat too many ribs to want dessert for awhile. Anyway, sounds great!

This is also when I cut my scion wood for fruit trees. I then wrap the scions in damp paper towels in a plastic bag and keep them in the crisper drawer of the fridge until it's time to graft.
